Good evening all, It has been since my initial newb post so I figured it was about time for an update. After purchasing and driving my car from AZ late this summer I did run it as my daily and enjoyed the hell out of it. Later in the year I was starting to get some popping out of the exhaust along with a hickup under light load between 2200-2900 rpm that started driving me crazy! After some thought I decided it was time to replace the 3+ year old DW740's and get rid of the factory side feed rails. Since my factory ECU was tuned using ECUTech I also replaced the PCM and got a base tune from Nuke (awesome guy to work with)!! I picked up a set of ID1000cc injectors along with T1Racecomponents rails. After pulling the intake off I decided to port the TVG's and port match the intake as well. What a PITA it is pulliing the intake off for the first time. I struggled with it for over 2 hours before it was out and stripped. While the intake was off I blasted it and painted it a semi-gloss black. Everything went back together really well. I used Areoquip push-lock hose and connectors to finish up the fuel system. The end result is really nice. I can't wait to get it in Nukes hands so he can work his magic. I am thinking I will run it easy through the rest of the winter on pump and then turn up the wick with E85 in the spring. Here are some pics, sorry for the long writeup Here is a pic of my turbo silverado, I though it was funny comparing the two in photobucket. The subi is all pluming and hoses and the truck is all motor!!
I will most definitely give you a ride in the truck. 12.9's out of a 6000# beast is not to bad. Especially considering it is a 165k mile short block with resealed stock heads and cam.
Yes I did the portwork myself. I do have to admit that is was the first time I started a porting job with a saws all (cutting out the divider in the TGV's)!! I looked at a couple of the grimmspeed intakes and TGV's and did what I could to copy them. I would love to see some pics, is it a front mount turbo or an STS? I love my truck, it really surprises the crap out of people when you mash it on the highway. With the auto and big torque it is a tire smoking machine
Here are some pics, it is a 160k mile 5.3 with LS1 heads and 6.0 liter cam. I put it together on a very tight budget and have been very impressed with the way it came together. It started with a Turbonetics 62-1 that was way to small but I had it laying around. Currently it is running a 70mm Master Power with a 1.0 a/r. I built everything but the passenger side manifold. With the 62-1 on 7# it made 424whp and 476lb/ft. Now with the 70mm I was running 12#'s and never got it dynoed but it did go 12.9 @ 106mph. I had some big front suspension issues and was launching it in 4wd really hard. Here is a pic of the Aurora that tried taking a left turn when I was coming through and intersection at 30 mph. That is the reason it has the HD front. She was a young girl that was uninsured, talk about a mess!
How's the ride? Have you tinkered with the suspension much? I'm not a truck expert but I'd think some stiffer spring would help put more power down considering the tall tires? I really like how you have done a great job of keeping it looking stock, had the IC system been painted black it'd be very difficult to spot.
Ride of the truck is great, I put on some Bilsteins and cleaned up some stuff when I picked it up just under a year ago. After bringing it to the track and holding on as it violently bounced from side to side I took the front suspension apart and found that all the front upper and lower control arm bushings were either soft or torn. I replaced all of those and it launches much straighter now. All of the cold side piping is now blue and is a challenge to spot through the grill opening Sneaky....sneaky!
Thanks for the response. I'm thinking you're gonna scare Nuke with your truck, he's never riden in anything that fast sitting that high off the ground. LOL But I've been proven wrong before!
Thanks for the ride along last year at a MOWOG event, this thing was solid. Looking forward to seeing it in it's new form. You gonna try and make it to a few more events this year?
