Hey so I have a 2003 WRX 5 speed. Is it pretty easy to pull out the transmission? Can I do it myself, or with a couple buddies in an afternoon? If anyone has done it before please let me know! That would greatly appreciated!!

Do it yourself! ... Get some beer... Invite some friends... All automotive stuff is easy if you take your time and think about what you're doing.

having a good jack really helps the process. doing the auto in dan's car sucked - but the auto is an absolute pig, far larger than your 5spd

yes, it was a pig...and having people that have pulled a transmission before helps too;)

next transmission I pull I'll use a transmission jack...normal jacks are just to ackward.

6 speeds are a much bigger pain in the ass than 5 speeds. About as heavy as the auto.

OP: It can be done by yourself but its always nice to have a hand to balance it on the jack or lift it. I would support the front of the motor to prevent it from stressing the mounts when it falls forward.

Also make sure you pull the clutch fork pivot pin and pull the fork off the TOB. Otherwise you will be swearing a lot wondering why it wont separate completely.
