So I finally raised my 02 WRX from the dead. While it was down, I installed a welded vf34, ewg, DW fuel delivery, tgv deletes etc etc. I drove it out of the garage for the first time yesterday in nearly 2 years, and in my haste I ordered an Accessport V3. I don't know a lot about it, but I'm starting to get the feeling that I bought a toy that is limited to internet dudes blindly making a map for me. Can I make my own maps? Compensate for ewg/tgv deletes? After sifting through a few threads, I'm skeptical. But I have to remember how many noobies litter forums with lack of knowledge. "do what your tuner says" is the most common response...

Question: Can anyone on here help me tune this thing with/without AP? I still have the WallofTV's tune running from 8 years ago. I'd like an answer soon, so I can return this AP if I don't need it.

    Thanks!

I have an AP and one of the deciding factors for me was the ability to quickly switch maps on the go if I can't find e85. There are other reasons to use an AP and there are some other useful features (at least on the V3) but a lot of people will tell you an open source ECU tune will do you just fine in most cases. Cobb does give you the ability to custom-tailor your own maps but it takes a lot of skill and knowledge to do it right. Do it wrong and you could easily do some damage. That said, I think it's definitely worth it to have a professional tune your Subie. There are plenty of places to get a quality tune around here. NF, RS Motors, MAP, and JM Auto seem to be the most used and well-known. You shouldn't have any problems finding testimonies on all of them.

Are any of the shops/tuners listed using AP? I can see many uses in owning an AP for troubleshooting/monitoring/map switching

As far as I know they can all tune using AP. I've had an open source from NF and an AP tune from JM, both were great to work with.

I was tuned via AP from NF, so that's who I'll recommend.

    FYI
Cobb currently does not have the ATR software available for regular users.
Only pro tuners currently can tune the Accessport.
They said in July it would be available again. Initially they said May...

So you're saying the ATR software will be available for regular users at some point?

Who knows. I just checked cobb's website and looked at the comments. They're saying "near future" now.
    So don't hold your breath.
Either prep for a protuner $$$ or go open source.

I've creeped on forums for other platforms that cobb supports (mazda and nissan) and based on Cobb's responses to their questions, they either
    1. F'd up with the software revamp and don't know what they're doing.
    2. More profit for them forcing everyone to go protune.

FWIW I prefer cobb over opensource. Now, meh.

It's option 3: there was a lot of non-Cobb-authorized tuners using the ATR software to create paid maps for their customers, so Cobb decided to yank the platform until they could find a way to stop this.

BTW I would be careful driving the car after conversion to EWG until it's retuned for it...

Sounds like your option 3 is a justfication for my option 2

Yea, no driving will be done. Still has '14 tabs... Besides, even if the ewg was inop, open, or closed, there's no way i'm bringing this engine into boost without having it dialed in. This is my 4th turbocharged vehicle.
