i have a td04 and i am wondering if i have to use the coolant lines or if i can get buy with just the oil? i am only going to run 5-7 psi with it
The coolant lines shouldnt take much time to hook up at all. You should be able to run on only oil for a little while, but the coolant lines are going to keep the temps down when its under strain, in addition to helping it live a long life during cool down periods when hot it will also help it cool down slowly during winter months to avoid cracking. Just my thoughts...of course, I am not objected to being wrong, so take it with a grain of salt.
im no rocket surgeon with this stuff, but i would think that if the turbo is designed to have coolant its probably a good idea to run with it. but like pra4sno said you could probably get by for a little while
My buddy ran a toyota supra turbo on his civic without coolant and it was okay. He didn't drive it too much though. I say run coolant. It came from the factory like that so i would definately try to keep it like stock. You dont want turbo failure. Turbo failure sucks. I lost a lot of money because of turbo failure.
Eric, do you use the factory oil/water heat exchanger? Oil has a tough time getting rid of that heat without any kind of cooling.
I use nothing for cooling, havent had an issue. i do have a factory water/oil cooler i could install, but meh...
ok well im going to try to plumb some coolant lines in but if it comes to it ill go without, its a free turbo afterall and i dont really NEED to gain some horses.
