I think somebody should take on the name "MOM" and just roam the forums moderating arugments. It seems every thread lately has people in this same battle... "blah blah blah, ha ha..... quit messing around, this is serious.... you suck...no, you suck....bla blah blah" ...and now I just added to it. I am going to go sit in the corner in shame.
If no one is gonna take the "MOM" figure in threads like this, you'll be in Agony later on, on why u didn't listen. Remember "Mother know best" U want Drama, u somewhat got it/ U want advice, here u go/ U want to take it, that's your choice/ U got $$$ to repair/replace, I think u know the answer to that.
hi guys...i think i might just upgrade my stock turbo to STi turbo, i think it should be bolt-on. so do i need a new TMIC,injector or fuel pump? also is the STi turbo is a VF??
^^^ Well at the very least, you will need pump, injectors and a some form of engine management so you can get tuned for the setup. To get some better power out of it, you would want to upgrade the ic to something that has a little bit better flow out of it. Russ
yah it is a vf 39 in a sti. you still need bigger injectors and a pump. and then to make it run you need management. but like russ said a ic will give you better flow and make a tad more boost. but you need those three to make it work and anything after that is just helping out
oic....if i go for VF39 ...how much it gonna be ? and im thinkin to buy a used one...and what brand of inector, pump and IC u guys recommend...and i dont really wanna spend much money on it ...used will be cool with me
you can mod your stock injectors for around $100 a new top mount is around $700 used vf39 is around $300 pump is $80 cobb ap is $ 500 ish
I will be selling my TMIC real soon and I may even consider letting go of my modified stockers if you were interested in letting me have yours so that I may have wrx1 modify them to the higher flow rate that I will need for my rotated set up. By the way I have an MRT TMIC and my modified stockers are flowing 630cc. As far as pump goes I would suggest the classic, tried and tru, Walbro 255 pump.
Its used and it wont be off till january but if your still interested then I am sure I could come up with a price. The MRT TMIC starts new at like 700+ I am pretty sure. Depending on how it looks when it comes off my car I would like to think 300. It works perfectly fine still and has no leaks. Works awsome on my 18g set up
yeah...it has a y silicone pipe on the underside instead of the metal y-pipe. It should mate up no problem. It is tight fit but I like it much more since it is more of a fatty type design instead of a longer design that starts to cover the turbo thus causing heavy heat soke
one of my friend told me to just upgrade my 02 stock turbo into a 04 stock turbo... so can anyone tell me the model number of 04 stock tubo? and is there any big different between them and do i still need a injector, pump and IC?? for a 04 stock turbo?
nope...all td04's. The one he bought may have been ported...thats the only thing that could make a stock turbo any faster
You need to stop listening to your friends because it's obvious that they have no clue what they are talking about.
^Agree...Sorry Chokin...But your friends don't make sense, unless they are talk'in about the 04 STi, not the WRX
its alright guys...thats why im asking u guys to make sure lol, is there any turbo can just plug and play...doesnt need to upgrade the injector, IC and pump at all??? just wondering lol ( this not from my friend, its from me lol)
ok ...im thinking to buy a VF39 in the future...so which injector ( like how many cc) which pump should i buy? anything else?
oh... I thought he didn't even have a TBE. Cheap route: -vf39 -walbro pump -modded stock injectors (630cc) -open ecu flash
You will need at the very least STi pink injectors, but I'd recommend something closer to 600cc's. Again, as stated before, the Walbro 255LPH fuel pump is pretty much standard for almost all turbo upgrades. A VF39 will not require more fuel than the Walbro 255 will deliver. And you will absolutely need engine management. You will need a map to run the new injectors just to get you going, then you'll need to be tuned for the turbo and proper fueling.
Walbro 255lph - can be found on eBay for around 85 bucks Modded stock injectors - You already have stock WRX injectors, Russ does them for cheap...PM him VF39 - can be had for around 350-450 used on Nasioc, just look around. Open ECU flash - you'll need to talk to one of the many people that are fooling with this on the forums. Wall of TVs comes to mind.
thx readymix thx for the helps!!! and im goin to have walls of TV to tune my ECU tomorrow cuz it hasnt been tuned since i installed the TBE and BOV
oic...u know how much he will do it for? also so i can just buy any brand of TMIC, becuase i was looking at the STi one earlier, would be fit if i upgrade to VF39??? and how much and which brand u guys suggest, um im looking into used too ...
I think the STi intercooler would cut it but I would suggest getting a larger one if you really want to put some power down. The STi TMIC will limit you much quicker than an aftermarket one if you ever want more power
Read up on Nasioc, alot of people seem to have good luck with the SSAutochrome topmounts and front mounts off eBay.
I usually do not post much on the technical forums as I do not consider myself an expert. However, I really think this thread needs to be cleaned up and stickied. Even though this thread went wayyyyyy off topic, it still has some really really good information. What turbo do i need? 1. What is the car going to be used for? (Drag, Track, AutoX, Rally, etc) 2. What mods do you have? 3. How much money do you have? 4. Have you thought about an AccessPort? 5. How much experience do you have driving/handling power? 6. How much experience do you have w/ car modification? 7. Can you afford to have the car in the shop for long periods of time? 8. Can you afford to not have a car at all? blown motor FTL!!1 9. How much reading/research have you already done? 10. add your own... Some of the things to keep in mind: 1. Aftermarket Blowoff valve not needed unless upgrading turbo 2. Engine management / tuning is your best friend 3. Turbo timer not needed 4. Manual boost controller makes baby jesus cry 5. etc etc. As i said, i am not a techie so feel free to fix my post and add to it. Then Russ or Steve can add this to Jason's sticky (common newbie questions) so wrong information is not spread out.
