I just need to do some final cleaning, then spray away. Gloss black Rustoleum which will probably be buffed. Hit the panels with 800 dry and the bumper cover with a gray Scotchbrite. I'll be using a cheap siphon feed gun which I've had laying around for years.
I'm just spraying the silver parts and the one door I sprayed with semi flat. I'm just trying to get a little less attention. Tomorrow I might work on getting the new fenders on, which will be quite the adventure in drilling and tapping.
I'm gonna miss the silver front, since the turbo bumper and hood scoop look nice together with a light color. Oh, well. She's gonna get some serious bodywork anyways. She's been telling me she wants to look pretty, and since she's been a good girl lately, I've been less opposed to the idea.
i have to say, the multi colored ness is uber sleeper. But i know how you feel on wanting it all painted. Cant wait to see it!
damn, idk if i will be able to recognize the tleg after this. i still remember the days it just got all put together!
Yeah, and I had ratchet straps holding the hood down, lol. I just got done spraying it. It came out kinda heavy at first so I had to stop and thin the paint some more. All in all, its not bad for cheap paint and a $40 gun. When it flashes in two hours I'll pull the masking and snap some pics.
No, putting on the fenders will be a day's project. Maybe starting tomorrow. I have to drill out half of the bolt holes, and re-tap them.
Meh, too much work. I was getting bored of masking knowing that the paint costed $8.99 a quart. That and I would have had to sand three times as much. All I'm going for is it being close to the same color. When I do REAL bodywork is when the whole car gets shot.
When I do bodywork for real I won't cut corners. I'm not going to put that much effort into an enamel paint job, only to strip it off. The hood and both doors will get replaced anyways. It turned out ok. This stuff takes forever to flash so it collected some dust. I'll give it a mild buff and call it good.
I knew you were going to upset. I've been meaning to do this for a while though, and you knew it was coming. It was just a matter of when.
Piddster, that looks really good.
I wouldn't go as far as to say it looks good. Not as bad seems more appropriate :laugh:
Looks good Dan! however if you are using the gloss black r/o be careful when you buff it, that sh1t burns off really really easy. ( I started buffing the hood and was like.... oh man. im done.) when I paint my leg white I will have to introduce your car to Ronda.
Its still pretty soft as it doesn't like to set in this weather. It took over four hours to flash, so a fair amount of dust got into it, but not bad. I'll let it harden up at least a week before I take a buffer to it.
Now if the Rustoleum smell would go away. Windows open on the highway and I can still smell it. I think it just needs some hot weather and sun to bake
Now its three colors, not four, and its not so obvious. Before it was Forest Pearl, Platinum Silver Metallic, Sandstone Metallic, and rust. Now its Forest Pearl, Rustoleum Black, and rust. I'm starting on the fenders right now, and hopefully the new guys will be on by tomorrow night.
