I'm starting to think about getting rid of our 2009 Forester. I've been driving this thing all over including up to Giants Ridge every year since I got the wife a newer Forester.

What would this thing be worth? This could turn into a FS thread if I find a replacement soon.

    Details
    • 2009 Forester X premium (maroon)
    • 2.5l with 4eat
    • 198k+ miles
    • Clear bra and tint done right away, getting old but was worth it
    • One owner car
    Good
    • Subaru sport grill
    • STi front seats (Alcantara)
    • STi rear sway bar
    • New fog lights
    • Newer struts
    • Newer brake pads/rotors/caliper brackets
    • MLS head gasket done at 80k timing belt around 110k
    • Has a 9" android navigation radio
    • Transmission replaced around 100k (dealer didn't put fluids in)
    • Has factory hitch
    • Newer front end links
    • Aftermarket exhaust
    Bad
    • Rusting in all the normal places, rear quarters and underneath
    • Bushings are pretty soft
    • Exhaust leaks, quiets down after warm up
    • Couple scratches and dings
    Needs
    • Tires 225/55/17
    • Exhaust work, could just be gaskets
    • Could use an alignment, not bad just not great
    • Probably going to need a timing belt in the next 15k miles
    • Still needs the airbag recall done, just been lazy
    Included
    • Factory radio
    • Used, but never installed skid plate
    • Weather tech front floor mats
    • Factory floor mats (if I can find them)
    • Original grill (if it's still out in the shed)

Not the most recent photo of it, but only about 6 months old. Shows the BRZ/FRS wheels that will be on it.

You know the honeymoon is over when the most recent photo you have of your car is two seasons old.

Not taking offers yet, just looking for thoughts on price.

Depending on what it would sell for, I might opt to swap the STi seats and wholesale it or sell it to co-part.

Without actually looking around, I'd guess maybe $5-8k.

What would you actually pay for a car like this? Carvana say $500. I feel like it's probably closer to a $4-5k car.

You don't get much car for $4k nowadays. Anyone paying that should expect to dump a couple thou into it almost immediately. I think most people shopping at that price point are either do-it-yourselfers that can fix most problems themselves, or they will drive it as is and be a risk on the highways, or willing to walk if need be. If you got 200k of use out of it, I'd be happy to get 10% of its original value in a private sale.

Kinda why I think it's probably in that $4k range. Needs a few things (which I listed). Not perfect. But I drive it everyday, so it's worth something.

Well... this is likely coming up for sale soon. I may have a replacement for it in the next week. It has 201k now and new power steering pump as of last week. I will be putting back the factory radio, the aftermarket one is not handling the cold weather well... cracking in the lcd screen. So, if you are interested, let me know. Gonna start at $5k on craigslist/marketplace. Willing to negotiate for less to an MNSubaru member who wants a 1 owner car with as much maintenance done as a guy can do. Feel free to ask questions.

I think that $5k is a good starting point. Good luck with the sale.

You can always come down in negotiations...once they start with a potential buyer, you never get a chance to go up.
