I think that's water. He was wetsanding so it was probably just rinsed and has bubbles in the water and such. That finish is way too shiny for just laid down paint with no clear...so yeah, probably just water.

close, its wax / degreaser... it's a cleaning agent that pulls any solvents, oils, films, or waxes from tape, fingerprints and other such contams. it evaporates as fast as rubbing alcohol. More usefull then water since it gives you almost the exact look and color the paint will give when its under the clear. shows EVERY imperfection since it pulls around every edge and makes a very very thin layer.

that pic is only there to show you guys the colors. trust me.. it will be smooth as butter with no lines when all is said and done.

So I take it from the amount of contaminants, you aren't spraying in a booth. Why not?! Can't wait to see when it's done

    good lord people.....
    lol....
it's not that it's loaded with contams... I'm using it to prevent contams.
and the tape lines will be gone when it comes time to clear....
    and yes.... I Paint.

    let me explain.

if you are in a controlled envirnment, and you touch the paint.... after its dried... you have now left oil from your finger on the paint. Wax/degreaser will remove said oil to allow the next coat of whatever to lay on like glass.
otherwise you might get paint pooling or discoloring around that little spot of oil... I would rather be 10x safer, then have to redo anything... as redoing anything in the paint world = 200% more work then doing it right the first time.

you can ALSO use w/d to load your design to check your progress. to see how things might look as if it was cleared. this is common practice while working with candies and or major airbrushing artwork. It gives you an understanding of what your colors will look like under clear.... since most ppg dried, looks nothing like what it will look like if it had a few coats of clear on it. especially with candies. as candies are DYES, not paints.

the bubbles, are not contams... it's what you would call solvent pop. Since I have over saturated the surface with a solution in order to show you guys what I am doing. since it evaporates perfectly clean... leaving the surface far cleaner now that I have overloaded it with w/d It will be cleaner then Mr. cleans bald head.

the paint lines, will magically disapear after I feather sand the edges, and lay on pattern number 2.... and again, fine feather sand.

then I will coat it with an extreme high gloss professional clear.

and out of the blue (pardon the pun) comes the sexy

I would give you all a step by step.... but that would take an extremely long time to explain why this does this, and that does that, and why I'm doing this... and in all honesty.... thats what you guys pay me for.... to confuse you, and then in the long run show you something completely awesome that you'll want or love for long time. like paying for a good hooker.

#1 rule of custom paint jobs... never judge until the job has been cleared.... because suddenly that is the key moment it all makes sense.

I will continue to answer questions
you will continue to bring me beer

this is how it has been done for centurys

This is non sense. Doesn't matter if you're painting the whole car or not. I didn't realize it was a controlled environment, but regardless, there can still be contaminants. I've painted numerous times in a prep deck and contams can still be an issue. Degreaser and a tack rag are a must and my best results is to spray in sections if you're not in a closed deck. Contams just equate to more work between coats!

I'll have some progress pics when I get home for you all. I peeled the masking, cleaned it up and am shooting the final test blue on the hood scoop.
Hooray for making up your own colors.

Wrb with added silver. Looks sexy as all hell.

If I like how it lays, then I mask off the 2nd pattern, shoot it, cure it... Clear it. And crack a few more jokes about police not able to radar me. LOL.

after spending a little bit of time re-casting nicks hood
    before (applied first cast)

and after recasting (no the resin cast will not be there in the final product, and it will look like a brand new hood when i'm finished... and yes I paint.... but notice the cracks are gone???? MAGIC!!!!!!)

we rolled in the next project car ... w00t w00t
    [IMG]

put it up on the hoist, went back to town on mine... I am now proud to have all the lines where I want them. and now back to the full masking, shooting the final color... clear / cut / buff / and done.

hope you guys like what you see so far, cuz i'm lovin it.

I personally think his silver blue, white spotted thing looks like crap... no thought put into it at all...
there was a dc car that had vinyl on it... much smaller pattern.. fairly simular...

actual paint always looks better, and I like my torn pattern 100X more imho
not a single pattern is the same on mine, and everything is done by hand.. no machine printed crap here. :)

    this one?

The real question was "do you paint yourself?"

The follow up is "do you paint others or just yourself?"
