I recently had new tires shaved to match older ones at norms. I had them balanced and trued all around. I feel a slight steering wheel vibration at 60+ mph. I just had it double checked again today and a front tire was 1 oz out of balance. They fixed that but the issue hasn't changed. Is it normal to have a bit of steering wheel vibration at high speeds? My entire front end is basically brand new minus the axles and steering rack.
Nope. Could be wheel bearing(s) or tie rod ends... or their balancer is out of wack. Had a discount tire mount/balance my new summer tires. They came back "perfect" Shook like hell. Came back a day later, and they figured their balancer was off or misused.
Neither wheel has wheel bearing play and my tie rod ends have only 2k miles on them with no noticeable wear. I guess I'll have to get a 2nd opinion from somewhere else that balances wheels.
I recall reading somewhere that if you get tires shaved, it can take X miles until they wear completely evenly and so you might feel a little vibration until then? Maybe someone else who's had tires shaved can comment if that's true..
That would make sense why I feel vibration on the shaved tires only. I had 2 new shaved to match 2 semi new.
Yes because my snow tires were way out of balance. But last fall before I ruined my front 2 tires (toe wear), I felt nothing.
Sounds like it's the tires to me. I'd say it's Norm's responsibility to balance them again and again until they get it right.
Right, that was my original idea. But this is 2 times now they were re balanced/fixed. I shouldn't have to devote my Saturday mornings to them. I will give them 1 more chance next Saturday. Is there anywhere else you or someone else would recommend? I refuse to go to discount tire, at least the one in Lino Lakes.
Try swapping tires around from side to side/front to back and see if the problem changes or goes away. Also, it probably wouldn't hurt to put a week or two of driving on them to see if something changes. | Have they been road-force balanced, or just standard?
