<<^^+1^^ And to keep on topic---How often you speed/How often do you get caught? Speaking for myself, I speed everyday that I'm behind the wheel...55mph means 55mph. If I'm doing 56mph, then I am exceeding the maximum posted speed limit, which I do daily. When the main flow of traffic is going 70 in a 55, and I am rolling with them at that speed, I am in the wrong(even if it is safer), but I do it. And so do 70 to 80% of people that commute in the metro<<<not that that makes it right! If I do it daily and only get a ticket about once every 3 to 4 years, what is the big deal? Almost everyone here has had a ticket, and/or will receive a ticket in their future. If they will give you an option to not report it to your insurance, take it! It doesn't get much sweeter than that. You need to accept the fact that you were in the wrong either way, crap(equipment malfunctions) happen and will probably happen again in your lifetime, and that speeding at 56 in a 55 or 76 in a 55 is still speeding which can = a ticket. Not trying to be an a**, but take the deal and pay it. Why do you want us to help you get out of something that you are guilty of? Btw, usually if you have a situation like an officer not showing to court, it would probably take a smaller community to get away with it. Growing up in Iowa, I have seen them not show before which = a dismissal. Don't know where Mark got by, but I do believe that an officer is required to be there in the metro. Definitely wouldn't count on him 'not showing' around here. /novel
personally I only made the comment because I have typed up like a half dozen essays on this topic, which if I had more time when I posted, I probably would have linked to. anyway, mayhem83 pretty well summed it up (though I know Scott county works the same way as Hennepin, and I think the principle applies pretty much everywhere, it just may be a little more difficult to get it in some counties.) fwiw here are some of my previous posts; I am sure there is other good info in those threads, in between the Bobby Bouchet and speeding is wack, yo! comments. http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showpost.php?p=179489&postcount=12 http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showpost.php?p=179489&postcount=14 http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showpost.php?p=229649&postcount=14 http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showpost.php?p=252848&postcount=25 http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showpost.php?p=272411&postcount=8
That is a good question, well.. fact is I wasn't going that fast, I may have been speeding, but not to that degree, I'm man of principle, I'll pay what I owe, but I don't like being put over a barrell just because I drive a WRX AWD SUPER CAR.
Oh yeah, and sorry but all my posts are just about the continuance for dismissal, which always just ends up being easier than actually fighting the ticket. The key is that with the continuance, you are not admitting guilt, and you still have the right to contest that ticket in the future. So if you do end up wanting to fight it (say you get another ticket) it will be months after the infraction and that kind of time may increase your odds. (of the officer not showing, or whatever.)
when i got a ticket for speeding, since it was my first one they let me pay a higher fee and go in a talk to a judge about not speeding. She was very nice and it was "removed" from my record, unless I got another one within a year.i.e. it never went on my insurance record. This was within the St Paul city limits I'm not sure if mpls or the suberbs have a like program.
this thread is funnay *I have never had a speeding ticket. Ever. They let me go all the time - and before I get the "oh it's cause you're a girl" thing - it is always girls that pull me over -and i doubt they ALL "like" me * *i also haven't gotten pulled over for speeding in years* *speed everyday as well* If I do get a ticket (which I have had for making dumbarse moves) then I just pay it. I don't even bother with the court thing - because it's easier for me that way (rather than get time off work and go there and etc etc) if they TELL me to go, that is a different story, but with my record, that normally does not happen. I am sorry you got the ticket, but these people are right - try to negotiate something smaller if you can, and just pay it. *edit* I am not saying that my time isn't coming, heck no, I am sure it is - but I try not to think of ways to "get out" of it - that's what I mean. Obviously what I do doesn't work for everyone
THE WAY i LOOK, HOW IS ANY JUDGE GOING TO TAKE ME SERIOUSLY? I'll pay what I owe, and my insurence guy said since my record is so good I will see no increase in premium!!!!! GO ILL Farmers!!!
The tickets I have fought have been in Anoka, Ramsey, Hennepin and Chisago counties. All in the "metro" area. The officer that wrote the ticket is always required to be at the court hearing. That doesn't mean they will show up. I have never gotten off on a ticket when the officer showed up. My record of dismissals by county is 1-2 Ramsey, 2-3 Hennepin, 0-2 Anoka, 1-2 Chisago. I have no evidence of this but I am convinced that the officers that have not shown for my trials have done so because I was ultra, ultra polite during the stop. I don't make them chase me if I know I'm the one getting pulled over. Roll down all the windows (if I have power windows), turn on all the interior/map lights if it's dark out and put my hands on top of the steering wheel until the officer arrives at the window. I don't dig for anything until the officer asks for it and then I explain where the things are and ask permission to retreive them. I leave my seat belt on until the officer can witness me removing it. I answer all questions with "sir/ma'am" or "officer" If I need to ask a question I wait until after I am handed the ticket. NEVER argue or discuss the ticket with the officer. NEVER NEVER argue before he hands you the ticket. NEVER cuss, whether at the officer or not. I'll tell you that my 50% ratio does NOT include the tickets I have deserved but were never written. Again, I feel this is all due to how polite I am during the stop. Every time you get pulled over, act accordingly as if you know you will be going to court. Don't beg or argue but be polite always. You may not get a ticket at all. I once walked on 105 in a 55. I pulled over before the trooper could turn around and waited. I was polite per the statements above and he didn't even write the ticket. I'm not saying I was going 105 because that would be illegal. However, the officer thought I was going 105 and that is all that matters. Mark Utecht
^^^Interesting...and good thing to know! I haven't experienced the metro court system yet. Just going off what others here have said in the past. But, on the other hand, I have seen them 'not show' in Iowa. And it was somewhat common. They must have thought that everyone would just pay up and not fight the ticket...we show, they don't, dismissal. It was kind of nice. But as I stated above, I don't think that I would count on them not showing.
Maybe my sarcasm meter is busted, but are you serious? You were all bent on fighting it, now you are just going to pay up? It isn't the first one that matters. It will be on your record for 3-5 years, and if you get another one, it will be much harder to get out of, or get any kind of deal. And that is when you start to see insurance increases. A clean record gives you a lot more bargaining power, and if you have one you should fight to keep it that way.
what you didnt call them a ****ing PIG and everything else, you werent a smart arse, you complied... wow.. thats a foreign concept for most
Sorry for the big quote, but :+1: This is the total way to go. :+1: Show respect and you'll get it in return. in my experience (ramsey county) the cops all get paid overtime to go to court, so they usually do.
I doubt there is a sucessful way of doing this...everyday & everytime...It is just the luck of the draw... Maybe "Myth Busters" should elaborate more on this and answer all the rumors surrounding all the myths of avoiding to pay a speeding ticket...Where's Bill!?!?! He's part of the show...02bluBRU!
So after searching and finding that the threads you located don't answer your question the idea is to post your question or comment in one of the thread you found, not start a new thread about the same thing. That is the whole point behind the search button. It is not to stop people from asking but to limit the number of threads that everyone has to try and keep track of. The big plus is of course that you look intelligent for using the search button instead of a putz (sorry putz your screen name is a word I like to use). This is part of the reason you see people making jokes about exhaust and BOV. A lot of people are getting sick of it. /End Internet Forum Class
