I've been to sun foods twice this year. Basically hung out with other subie people until 003o and walk around looking at other cars. While everyone left to go street race, the subaru group who usually parks in the back lot looks at everyone leave and we continue our BS through the night.

I've got to admit that there are some fuglier cars out there now then back in my Honda days. Its also nice now that the cops doesn't harass people in the lot since no one really does reckless things anymore. Everyone kinda just sit and chill.

I also notice that the Honda people are still very rude or defensive when you walk by them. Even trying to start a friendly conversation, they will give you the evil look if they don't know you. If you don't want people to walk around looking at your car or talk to you then close your hood. No one is going to steal your single cam non vtec D15 motor with a home built home depo intake.

There are also a lot of turbocharged Hondas out there. But they look like someone just slapped it on. Don't know if they evened tuned the car. You can clearly hear all the suspension rattles and knocking motors when they leave the lot to go street race.

I don't think Sun Foods is the type of environment most of us are looking for. Same issue with being labelled as "those damn ricers" at calhoun (by people with the authority to act on the impression) because everyone-but-us was doing burnouts and generally acting the fool. That said, I'd be down to try it again if we had a group going.

Is the issue that we just need a spot to meet and someone has to check into that and get permission?

Yes, that is the ask. If anyone knows of a property/lot owner in the area that either they, ReadyMix or myself can approach to see if they'd be ok with us occupying the lot.

I actually don't mind Sun foods.

A couple of us park in the back lot and most subaru that passes by us drives around the lot and then parks next to us. Its still a place to hang out on Friday nights and we ignore all the stupidy things and the best thing is we get to enjoy all the dumb arses acting the fool.

My first night out at sun foods, I was carrying my camera around. As soon as I approached a group of Honda owners, they immediately shut their hoods. One of the guy says in Hmong "dude, are these guys with you? They just walked up behind us".

I was thinking, WTF. First off, I'm Hmong and I can clearly understand everything you are saying. Second, I just want to commence car talk and get to know the crowd.

Dude must think I'm laotian or something. dumb arse

Holy **** show of a thread this is turning into. I'm not interested in an East Side meet, but let me try to help you all out. There is a park with a huge parking lot near downtown St. Paul on the river called Upper Landing Park. I used to live near there. It's a cool place. See map below.

If parking lot roofs are okay you might consider the Park and Ride Ramp at the 28th street station in Bloomington. Big, well lit and on Friday nights should be pretty much empty compared to Mall of America. The nice part would be that if its raining you can just move down a level.

The trouble with private lots is that most lot owners are worried about liability. A single accident claim can skyrocket your insurance cost or, if the insurer finds out you are basically hosting car shows which is outside the scope of your policy, they will likely drop you and getting dropped is the kiss of death in the insurance industry.

On the other hand Park and Ride lots, of which we have plenty in this town, are public lots so insurance shouldn't be a concern and as long as you aren't causing problems, ie noise/damage you should have something of a right to be there being a public space. Parks generally close at dusk and are typically more residential in nature so hanging out until 2 am is probably going to generate complaints. Park and rides are typically located in more commercial areas so noise and traffic late on Friday or Saturday nights is not going to be a problem.

You could always be proactive and ask metro transit for their input.

has any one try contacting Arden Hills Shopping Plaza? its a pretty big parking lot that was redone about 1 year ago. i went to the ace hadware store there the other day and as i was walking out, looking long and hard at my car and thought to myself, "hmm, this place looks good for a nightly meet." hwy 51/snelling is near by and so is hwy 694. just a thought.

Nope. There is no definitive location and there is no meaningful discussion occurring to fix that across the board.

fridays are a tough day for me. I use to work friday nights so it was usually out of the question.

Between the long work week and dealing with obligations from my other half if she has anything already planned. usually i just park it at home for the night. im sure i could do a meet every now and then if something were to arise.

A lot if us use to go out to uni on Fridays before they stared ripping it up. Personally Fridays are tough for car meets because that's generally taken up by happy hour after work then out doing something that involves a decent amount of alcohol which does not pair well with driving. Or taking the wife out to dinner.
