Anyone know how much work it would be to do an automatic to manual swap? I was just sitting here wondering. Did a little searching but didnt come up with much.
You will need the peddle, transmission, master cylinder, manual ecu and the shift linkage. That should cover of it. Find those can it can be done.
i research on this a little bit too b/c i am planning an auto to manual swap soon...i was wondering what parts i would need too...
There's actually now quite a few threads on RS25.com and a few on NASIOC about doing this. Here's a handful of links I found and were at least marginally helpful when I did my swap, there's more than one parts list in these: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=378813 http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/swap/swap.html http://legacycentral.org/library/transmission/electronics.htm http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1559347 http://www.rs25.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86304 http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=737805 http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=32758 http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=30623 http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1841 http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=14408 (apparently the SVX guys do this often for the AWD). And like I said, there's a bunch more, newer ones on RS25 - several of which I've whored myself out in. I also managed to break even on my swap (after selling the 4EAT), but it was a tranny from a 93 Legacy, so..
brand new from subaru pedal assembly (every part), mastercylinder and brace + hardline cost me somewhere aroudn 200-240 for I think. Then you need a slave cylinder and all the tranny parts.
Swap tranny's. I thought lots of them were FWD. I could be mistaken, though. Maybe they're just mostly auto tranny's? In any event, the SVX guys appear to do auto-to-manual swaps a lot (or post on the interwebz about it a lot anyway).
Yeah, I'm not an expert, but was pretty sure they're all both AWD and Auto (stock). Sorry, was just confused.
And you may need/want a manual ABS electronics, manual cruise electronics, starter interlock relay. Manual ECU is not likely not necessary (newer years may be different), but rearranging some things on the auto harness (or replacing it) may be. Blah, blah, blah. Its all in the links. (reading for yourself > listening to me babble )
whoa...ick. http://minneapolis.en.craigslist.org/cto/1046963282.html what the hell is the point of that???? (FWD!?)
lolz. Somehow that link's not in my list. Quite the experience that was. Now I'm gearing up for round 2. Hahaha. And to think: A year ago I was scared to change my own brake pads.
I was just wondering because this guy was offering me his 04 wrx with auto for sale. plus he had a 6 speed swap. I told him that it was too much work so I was really interested. BUt it was at a good price.
