Yesterday I had a low speed shudder when turning sharply. Now it happens all the time on VERY low speed turning manuvers. From some research it sounds like the center dif. There may be some other parts that need to be replaced (low speed clicking/high speed squeek), so I guess its time to bite the bullet and get to fixin'. I can NOT do the work. I don't know what I'm doing. Any time I work on cars I feel like I'm going the break everything I touch. So...I'm looking for parts and a mechanic. Not a big hurry, but thanks for any help! Probly need to have the car looked at first.
yes! um, 2002 bugeye WRX. Previous owner had tranny rebuilt with what should be 04/05 tranny if that makes a difference. 110k miles.
I know its a crazy spendy part, I would just rather get some used parts together and make my ride a little nicer. No hurry, like I said.
used 5speed is around 500 bucks why not just get another tranny seems eaiser theb fixing the one u have no?
Your best bet for a used one will be a junkyard or as previously suggested, someone selling a used tranny. Just make sure the center diff is included. My understanding is any MY99+ center diff will work. I did this fix on my Automatic 05 RS and it was a hefty job, but slightly different from replacement in a MT. I also second it that you can drive it this way for a while without any other major damage. I'd maybe keep an eye on your trans fluid just to make sure no major debris is floating around in it.
Yep, relatively simple project....easiest way is without pulling the transmission (unless you happen to have access to a very nice shop with hoist and transmission jack). I pulled the center diff out of my XT6 this summer in about an hour in the gravel parking lot at work (which, turned out not to be the problem....). you might be able to get a deal on a transmission with other problems, but a good center diff. and pull the diff out yourself, and then you can see how the rear housing comes off with a trans on the bench, and you'll have a better idea when you get under the car.
^^^thank you. This is what I'm talking about. I'm not excited about a problem like this, but the car feels like a wheel is going to fall off when I turn into a parking space.
