try looking at a 92 saab 900 wiring diagram, bl and y both represent a blue wire. Subaru made nice wiring diagrams.

Or an E30 diagram. Central grounding for the stereo system. Four wires become Two wires become one wire, then back to two and four again. Each time they change color. Then they enter the amp and are completely different colors than they were previously as they run to the speakers. These have to be traced, matched and the amp bypassed if you want to use a normal stereo. Freaking Europeans are nuts.

Can you install a catback if you don't have cats? Installed a real aftermarket center pipe and muffler instead of my leak out of every flange, sound like **** gutted stock twin tip pos. And replaced my hazard switch with a phone mount (don't worry I have way better aftermarket hazard lights on a different switch).

picked her up from dustin and drove her 2 the cities. 6 speed is in now all i need is a 6speed shift knob and shift boot as well as to hook up the dccd and the 6speed swap will be done. after sitting so long my driver side brake pins are sticky and the brake on that side is grinding so i need 2 lube them up as well as see whats the deal with the drive shaft as under light load in 4-5-6 it makes a wiring whining noise that is veryyyy annoying.

Attempted to fix my punctured CV boot so there is at least some grease in there until I can get a replacement boot from Subaru. Funny thing about the boot, my car is an 09 Impreza and there is no way to get just the front outer boot without having to order a whole front axle........Go figure

Adjusted my non-functional handbrake from the rear. Passenger side works great now, but found that the components are all missing on the driver's side. :ugh:

Pulled the transmission out of the '6 today. took about 2 hours (driveshaft, linkage, and crossmembers already out). Carried it downstairs. took it apart....yep, rear bearing on the output shaft seized. ugh.

tore apart this RS transmission I got from Izzy (thanks man!). boy is this thing clean! looked up the number, definitely 4.111, newer style center diff (good?), and shorter 2-4 gears. could be interesting.....

started assembling the final product. turns out the RS trans has a larger speedo gear (same as the XT6) than the 1.8 impreza that previously gave up it's internals for this setup.

the plastic "feet" on the 5th shift fork were pretty screwed up, apparently the center diff housing was the first to loose fluid. So I swapped the fork over as well, excellent, perfect fit. Then I started testing things, ran it through the gears, everything was working well. Then reverse, turned the input shaft, and got a noise, like the gears weren't meshing correctly. Well, I remember seeing that the ratio was different on the RS setup, so maybe the idler gear is different. pulled them back apart, yep, the RS idler is larger. put that in the XT6 case, everything lined up, tested again, won't engage.

Tried a few things, and if the input shaft is fully seated, reverse will not engage. if I lift up slightly on the input shaft, it will engage, but it is noticeably resting on the gear, not the bearings. Only thing I can think of, is that the shaft for the idler is a hair further away from the main shaft on the newer transmission than the older ones. But I don't have a measuring tool accurate enough to confirm it. Looking through some online tranny charts, it looks like 2.2 imprezas in '97 started getting the 3.333 reverse gear, and everything else in '99. before that, they were all 3.416.

bought a digital caliper. yep, the idler shaft is .04" further from the main shaft on the '01 case than it is on the '88 or '93. and it appears that the teeth on the reverse gear on the input shaft are larger on the RS. so even if I use the smaller reverse gear, I still have .015" less clearance than stock. I'm tempted to run them across the grinder for a moment.....what could go wrong? :hsugh:

Dude, don't use a grinder. Do it the proper way... with a dremel and aluminum tape.

yea, literally grinding it would have been overkill. didn't have any aluminum tape.....so got out the dremel with a sanding drum on it.....and just finished. measured the depth between every tooth, and they all measured between 0.169 and 0.171 (used to be 0.186, old one was 0.170). Did a dry run. reverse engages, and I can spin the input shaft without any noise or binding. definitely an improvement.....I think I'll rock it and see how it works out.

This morning got stuck in the BP car wash because the door was broke to exit. Had to call them and have someone hold it up while i exited... fun times.

Drove out to MAP and picked up a GRIMMSPEED Boost Controller and a Walbro Fuel Pump. Now i just need to wait for the injectors and I am set.

nice! glad you were able to get it up and running and didn't sell it.

new (proper) 20mm whiteline bushings, replacing 17mm bushings on 20mm bar due to bracket differences between years.
