Changed oil to rotella t6 and tranny fluid to Scotty's cocktail. Runs so much smoother ! Pretty sure previous owner was way over scheduled changes...

Next on the list, new struts

Yes, it sounds great. I have the Tial MV-R 44mm. It is loud, but a deeper tone, and it's a lot of fun.

Here are a few shots of the setup:

Installed (GrimmSpeed Uppipe makes everything fit perfectly!):

I am using the 1.1 bar (16psi) spring combo. Held 18psi rock solid with the MBC backed all the way out on my test run, and I now have it set to 20psi, and it holds perfectly. No creeping or spiking at all.

Had to replace a blown upper radiator hose... Had two weak points in the corners from rubbing on the alternator pulley and radiator fan. It either shifted over the years or was never installed properly.

At least I'm getting to know this car faster than I normally would. I wish it hadn't involved spewing steam and coolant all over my engine though...

    Moonroof short block swap!

Apparently it takes 6-7 wheel barrows of Subaru parts to fill a BC. The garage is a lot cleaner tho. The next cleaning project involves welding some 1" rebar across the front frame rails so I can jamb 3-4 motors in the engine bay, pics to follow haha

I was almost run off the road last night heading home from a buddies house.

grey acura (new tl i think could have been tsx didn't get a good look). Guy tried to push his luck passing me where lanes cut down to 1 on 53 heading north into saint paul. he honked as he flew by me the last minute. I had to swerve over as hard as I could to avoid being hit. he barely squeezed by me and the barrels which were half way or more in his lane as it merged to 1 lane. It was inches and when he honked it scared the **** out of me as i was not expecting it. I was not amused at all- he continued to drive like an asshat cutting lanes like it was a slalom course and headed on 94 towards mpls. You sir could have killed us. he must have been doing 80+ as he passed me. I was going 60 and starting to slow for construction. I was shaking a bit after it, it was way too f'n close for me.

Were you on E85? Why do you switch back to pump gas in winter? Safer?

I was told that winter cold starts can be hit or miss on E85 due to the higher octane. Some run it year around.

It's not due to the higher octane, it is the reduced energy by volume. My car started/ran fine last winter on E85 :)

So today I started getting the car ready for winter. First stop was to Hagen's Auto Body on 28th and Lyndale where I had the 12 inch crack in my front fascia fixed. I cracked it last winter when pulling into a parking lot with too steep of a grade from the street, front fascia hit the ground a crack. I've had it held together with a ziptie ever since. As opposed to replacing the whole thing they used a 3M product to hold the crack together from the back. You really have to get pretty close to tell now and it only cost $50. WIN!

    Before...

    After...

Also, on a trip to Target I came across a brush for cleaning vents around your home...

and/or the snow out of your wheels :) ...

Finally, I stopped at Auto Zone to pick up a new set of wipers as the ones a WRX comes with completely suck.F

    Winter here I come!

There's a thread on this issue with the 2011 WRX bumpers on NASIOC. My car has a crack in the exact same spot. Too bad Subaru won't do anything about it...

Sophie had the same problem on her 08 impreza 2.5i... It came from cold weather and pushing snow... She traided it in for her 08 LGT. I seen a few impreza's with this same problem this spring... Subaru SHOULD do something about it :(

All belts replaced, most the pullys, thermostat, disabled my DTRs, and put in some hella yellow fogs. Thanks to Minnetonka Subaru for the parts! And to my bro Stu who did all the work at his shop, Beach's Long Lake Service in NB. Check it out! They carry race fuel, as well as have a 2wd dyno.

I officially parked the car for winter yesterday. Kinda sad to see it shoved against the wall when all these years I've been telling everyone what a great winter car it is. I'm curious to see just how much crap gets piled on top of it over the winter. I'm already looking forward to firing it up for the first time come spring.

    lol

    Oh crap.

 Basically we felt it was time to buy a truck and with her driving the Forester(yes we will still have ayear round Subaru) and me with the STi and a brand new truck it's just makes sense to store the car as opposed to buying a new vehicle and parking it for the first 6 months of paying for it. No fear though I'm not giving up on it, just giving a little rest.

    The new one

bumped into it and put a 3" scratch , in about the same area my 6 y.o. swung the door of my jeep into it and scratched/dented a month ago....so much fun having the wagon get beat on as she sits w/o a motor in it.......i hope to have her back running again soon for some winter fun!

Okay, this is starting to make more sense now that you've tossed your wife and a "brand new truck" into the equation. I'm guessing the conversation something like, "You see honey, after we (I) get the new truck I'll park the STI for the winter. We'll want to drive the truck in the winter because it has better ground clearance and is bigger and therefore safer. We can then store the STI which will make it last for many years to come. Also, as I won't have to rely on the STI for winter driving I'll finally be able to do a few long overdue repairs that I've been putting off (turbo and suspension upgrades). This will also make the car drive better and last longer. When you think about it, buying a new truck will actually save us money! Plus ,we can use it to tow that boat we've always talked about getting. It's really a win/win all around!"...

I had a similar conversation with my wife right before we got our (my) WRX.
