Let me know if you find somewhere to get 2mm spacers.I could only find 5mm sets for more $$$ than I wanted to spend.
I put 225/50's on my RS wheels and put them onto my 97 Legacy. As I'm sure you discovered they rub on the rear strut bodies on hard cornering. I just got some camber bolts and dialed them out 0.5* and have had no issues since. I was considering just running the spacers on the rear. 2mm is not enough for me to worry bout.

I decides instead of spacers to just take a hammer to the lower strut mount, it only needs to go 2mm in.

Haha yeah, I'm running ground control sleeves on my AGX's so I did the same to clear the top of the tire. I still had the inside sidewall touching the strut (just enough to start wearing but nothing like the top was) under hard cornering. Just keep an eye out for that since hammering the strut body isn't an option.:D

But it is always nice to go back to Summers in the spring. It always feels like the car is so much faster.

Winters do add that wobble! Softer tires + 1" smaller rims = less aggressive corners.

Changed out spark plugs this past Saturday. Ripped one of my plug wires in the process. That was an unplanned additional cost. Oh well. I guess better be more careful next time.

    In the last 18 hours:
    • Removed my winter wheels/tires
    • Removed my wheel spacers
    • Installed my summer wheels/tires
    • Removed my summer wheels/tires
    • Installed my winter wheels/tires
    • Removed my wife's summer wheels/tires

I think that ends up being at least 160 lug nuts I've taken on or off in the last day! All with just a torque wrench, floor jack and my bare hands. No power tools involved.

The bad news is that the winter steelies I bought for my wife's Civic won't clear her brakes :( The actually rub on the edge of the caliper that is closer to the hub. There is a lip that sticks out just a hair too far. I am able to mount the wheel and torque down the lug nuts, but I hear a slight rubbing when I drive. I think I'm going to need to pick up some small (3-5mm) spacers.

    Here are some photos:

Rubs at spot #1, but does not rub at all on spot #2
    2011-11-19_11-50-58_300.jpg

The other front wheel. Rubs at spot #1, and rubs less at spot #2

Close up of spot #1 from photo above
    2011-11-19_11-52-59_596.jpg

For now, the stock wheels are back on the fronts. I'm thinking that a 3mm spacer will be enough for the steelies to clear, but I'm not positive. Anyone know of anywhere local to get them?

Well, I tried Discount Tire, Autozone, NAPA, O'Reilly, and Advanced. A couple of them had some 8mm universal spacers, but I figured that would be way too much for the stock lug nuts, so I went ahead and ordered some 3mm spacers online.

I took mine out for its first snow drive.

First impressions: I'm surprised by how much leeway the VDC will give, but when it does kick in it's a complete buzzkill. If I shut the VDC off, I'm able to have a bit more fun with it. With the VDC/TC on, it goes and stops just fine, you just can't do much as far as pitching the car. I'll be looking for differentials this spring, I think. I haven't found anyone else with an 08+ online who's swapped out the front/rear diffs to go from open to LSD. The General tires are great in the snow, like most good snow tires they almost take the fun out of it and make it seem like you're on regular pavement rather than snow.

It's good to hear that generals work well in snow. I'm planing on ordering a set for my freshly painted stock wheels :). Right now I'm using a worn down set of bridgstone pole-positions and I'll just say I got to know my ABS well on my way home from work lol.

Yeah, I ran Generals all last season ad they were awesome! GREAT grip in the snow. A bit soft and squishy when it's nicer out but the snow traction more than makes up for it in my book. I did a little driving today and ir was very evident how much more traction my car had than all the other cars, likely on all seasons (FWD and RWD).

It's actually sort of scary to see how ill prepared 95% of the people on the road are for stuff like this. I hate getting stuck behind someone (especially on an incline) at a stoplight that can hardly make it through the intersection before the light changes.

Then, I went and bought a used Land Rover so I can keep my WRX in the garage :)

Yes works on a stock ecu and if you get me your contact information i would be willing to pass it along to my tuner and see if he is willing to make you a map or not. If you do your own tuning the map basis is already there using the carberry rom that can be found on www.romraider.com under 16bit thread.

Keep in mind, to lessen the chance of backfires, you want to do fuel cut. Then you are not loading up the cylinders with extra fuel. Back in the day, I knew a few people who used spark cut, had a backfire, spit out a valve shim from the bucket, and proceeded to completely destroy the valvetrain in the motor.

I understand the risks of running spark cut Launch control.
There are alot of benifits over fuel cut launch by doing it this way though.

Also running shimless buckets ftw :-P

I just got my car back from at RS. New pads and rotors finally installed after 2 seized caliper bolts required 2 separate trips to the machine shop. FYI taking out the caliper bolts at an early age and coating the threads with a good anti-seize and then re-torquing properly can save many headaches and dollars down the road.

Also have new Gates timing belt, water pump, accessory belts and Grimmspeed crank pulley.

    Tomorrow will be winter wheels.
