Got my car tuned by Nuke and it runs awesome. More power and it is sooooo smooth. I found out my new to me 06 STI has never been tuned before. That's a good feeling.

The torque curve doesn't punch you in the face like the 30R did, but it pulls harder overall, especially up top. I can definitely feel more horsepower out of it. It was pretty hot last night too, so I think it's going to feel a little different tonight  Especially without Fuji in the car ;) Nuke took it easy on the timing since I'm still running H-beams, and the concensus is with the stock heads/cams, it's a very smooth power curve. Since I don't feel like swapping again before the next BIR event, I think this will be a good match for the track. We were maxing the hell out of the AEM truboost gauge too...we went to logging the omni to see what we were actually boosting. And, not sure why, but the FFS is completely different, it feels like a built auto shifting now, not the violent slam that it used to be.

just put an up-pipe, down pipe, full exhaust,Tien lowering springs, bigger intercooler, AEM short ram intake, AEM AFR gauge in the driver side vent (custom made), took the stock wing off, and took the SUBARU off the trunk. car was tuned by NUKE. runs great, love this car. If anyone would like their car worked on, i am the closing mechanic at a shop called University Service (off 16th and SE Como ave) 1625 SE Como ave MPLS 55414. Well, it's been a good car weekend here. First we spent yesterday going to pick up my wifes new car after her beloved 2.5RS coupe was totaled out on a deer hit from Karen in Orr:

I think she likes it, the whole drive home pretty much looked like this according to my sister
    [IMG]

    and the car
    [IMG]

Then today I FINALLY had time to roll/pull all of my fenders, rust proof the inside of the lip, and put my 05' LGT wheels on

And for fun, here it is parked next to my old car (of former 2.2GT-T honor) that is my sister's car to show stock vs. Lowered:

Replaced the bracket on the up-pipe to compressor stud so that I could attach the 3rd bolt on my Cobb turbo heat shield...no more rattle!

Ugh...took it for a drive and now I have a new rattle! I can't for the life of me pinpoint it either. It's only audible with all windows up too, so it's subtle. I can replicate it by hitting the top of the heat shield softly so I'm thinking it's something underneath because there's no noise when I hit either side of it. I'm just going to pull the intercooler back off again tomorrow to get a better look

Followed up with my heat shield rattle. I initially thought it was the heat shield rattling against the tranny case, so I trimmed that area and put it back on... rattle was still there, ****. Alright, what else could it be rattling against? Noticed it was touching a rubber hose on the passenger fender side, but metal against rubber shouldn't make the rattle that I was hearing...right!? Well, after tapping the hose it seemed to make the same noise and then I noticed at the bottom of the hose is a metal connector and it dawned on me that the heat shield was rubbing against the hose and causing the metal connector to rattle. Took the heat shield back off and went to town with the snips. Eventually cut enough of the of the shield so that it's not hitting the hose.

    Things I learned:
    1. I can get the heat shield off without taking the intercooler off (after taking the intercooler off and back on twice )
    2. I might have bought the wrong Cobb heat shield.
    3. If #2 is false, then the Cobb heat shield sucks balls.
    4. Wear gloves when poking your hands around jagged metal

    On to the pictures:

    wtf...

Here's the black hose I was talking about...it angles towards the downpipe as it goes deeper into the bay. What is this?

So did anyone with an SPT or Grimmspeed heat shield run into this?

Wow, you really hacked the crap out of that. Does it rattle with the heat shield completely removed?

Nope...after I figured out I could get the heat shield off without taking the intercooler off, I tested it out without the heat shield and no rattle. There's no rattle now either after 'trimming' it.

Considered just running no heat shield since the dp is wrapped, but thought a little bit of heat shield is better than nothing.

Ok, did some searching and it looks like I have the right Cobb shield for my car but it's just poorly designed. Here is a pic of the SPT that is meant for my car...it doesn't extend down as far on the passenger fender side which is what I cut out on my Cobb.

Plastidipped that little silver wrx badge behind the front wheel last night, only thing on the car that was silver it was driving me nuts for some reason. Didn't have time to put them back on this morning so I'm driving around without the panels on the car. Might just be the new look.

Next time leave it on the car when you Plasti Dip. Create a tape line/boarder about 1 inch from what you want to spray. Then cover the area greater than 1" (about 12 inches out) with a plastic or paper bag. Removal of the excess Plasti Dip is very easy. You don't want to tape right up to what you want to paint... it is easier to clean up if you allow a boarder for over spray. Then remove unwanted Plasti Dip with care and tooth picks. It usually peels off right where you want it to, but sometimes you have to assist it with a toothpick. When doing something like an emblem and plastic back, (plastic on plastic) a razor can be used in the "gap" area... but take your time not to damage anything. A very light touch will do the trick. I would never advise this with a painted body part though. Toothpicks work fine for body pieces that touch paint.

Put this stupid heat shield crap to rest! After trimming the Cobb one, whatever hose that is was still resting against the heatshield which bugged me...it's just the way I am. So I trimmed it more, painted it with some high temp paint, then for good measure put an SPT over it (thanks to MrMcMonkey for the SPT). And since I like to document with (crappy) pictures...

Used one of those blue 3M pad things to get the shine off before painting:

After it's painted and on the car:

    Cleaned up the SPT:

Was losing oil slowly but surely, so stopped at my buddy's family garage after hours, threw it up on the lift, and replaced the clamp for the turbo drain hose. From what I could tell that was the source of the leak. Then, I also found a broken bracket from the exhaust which I believe was the culprit of some unwanted rattling so took care of that too. So far so good! I forgot how nice it is to work in a garage with a hoist, as opposed to my (garageless) back yard :)

Dark out now, I'll try to remember tomorrow. If you like it and want to do it, fill out the survey on their webpage. They give away one per week for free, I won one on my first entry. Also if your model isn't listed on the site, if you take pics they'll reimburse $10 toward it. They're still pretty cheap.
