Replaced the right side ball joint on Saturday evening. I knew the boot had torn, but it seemed stable... Until Saturday afternoon, then it started making all sorts of noises.

The ball socket pinch bolt and and ball shaft nut both came out/off without too much drama!! The ball shaft didn't want to budge at first, so I ended up supporting the knuckle with the nut still loosely installed on the ball shaft, and allowing the swaybar to apply a little downward force on the LCA, and used a drift and a hammer to knock down on the LCA. Two blows and things popped apart! To my surprise, the ball socket was halfway out of the knuckle too, at that point!

In reassembling the corner, I did manage to briefly pull the half shaft out of the inner CV joint, but was able to pop it back in like a dislocated shoulder! I lubed up the body of the ball joint with copper anti-seize before re-installing it in the knuckle.

Not too much fuss or muss, even without the special tools.

Thanks, me too. I wasn't sure about red on red at first, was afraid they would be 2 totally different reds and they'd clash. But it turned out pretty nice I think.

Started off the evening looking for a boost leak in my sister's bugeye. This would be the second time looking for this leak. The first time was a few hours, finding a bad inlet hose and then spending a Saturday replacing that. (Tonight) Spent 3 hours cleaning and tearing apart everything from the turbo to the engine. Applied silicone (gasket maker) and installed. I took it for a test drive and it was still driving like crap. I pulled it back into the garage. Pushed the inlet onto the turbo more, reclamped it, took it for a drive and still had not found the issue. Annoyed, tired and hungry I called Crispy to see if he had any advice or could lend a hand. He was by my house and swung by. We took it for a drive and he unplugged the MAF to run it open loop. The car started to run fine. My sister had gone to NAPA prior to her inlet install and picked up what she thought was an OEM MAF Sensor @ OEM Price $200+. Turns out they sold her a knock off sensor @ OEM price that didn't work. So our guess was it was the MAF since it was running fine open loop.....

Thank GOD for Tash! I ran down to OC and met up with Tash. Grabbed a working OEM MAF, plugged it in and took a drive. All issues went away! I sent my sister home running open loop with the crap MAF no plugged in. Told her to stay out of boost on the drive home. She will have to bring it back to NAPA. I gave her permission to kick them in the Nuts after the return. I have successfully wasted 2 evenings and a Saturday working on an issue that was never there.

Thanks to Josh I am picking up a used OEM MAF tomorrow. I guess one more wasted evening of driving around and she will be good to go. I guess I am not looking forward to driving home from Ramsey (day care) to North St Paul. Back to New Brighton, and then to Coon Rapids to toss in the new MAF before I can come back home. It will make for a long day when I have to get up at 4:30am and I can't start my taxi repair service until 6pm - 7pm tomorrow night. Ok I am done feeling bad for myself now.

Thanks again everyone for the help tonight.
Nuke for answering his phone when I kept blowing it up
Crispy for swinging out and keeping me from starting the bugeye on fire
Tash for the test run of the MAF
and Josh for the new to us part tomorrow.

Found out the issue with NAPA.

    "like OEM quality"

Not OEM. Major FAIL! Part returned.

Got the OEM part from Josh tonight. Installed and drove around. The car runs great. She is also happy with the new spool noise that the inlet makes... LoL.

x-mas came early for the wagon. Also added a roof basket. Picked this up used on craigslist with the brackets for $40. What a steal!
Was originally on a xterra, but the dimensions were perfect for the wago. Don't know the brand and don't care. It was a deal I couldn't pass up. Needs a little resto, but what doesn't?!

It had been in a small front end collision and I think it had the hood replaced. Thinking they forgot to put the thing on the new hood.

This weekend I pulled my intake mani and fixed my fuel leak, re-routed/hid as much wiring and hoses as I easily could, Plasti-dipped my wheels, FINALLY installed my hellas, and planned out my battery/washer bottle trunk relocation assault.

Removed the NA Impreza Plugs from my STi, and preformed a compression test as the car has been stage 2+ for at least 30k on the stock tune. Thankfully the results where acceptable.

Jeez! Last time I saw that it didn't turn out well at all. It was a guy on subaruforester.org who bought the car used, and the previous owner (or garage) used the NA spark plugs in a turbo unknown to him. Burnt some exhaust valves and had to rebuilt the engine.

Also managed to get my foglights to run independently of my headlights. I can turn them on with parking lights (either one click with the headlight switch or the switch on the steering column), low beams, or high beams!

Next up is a switch to disable/re-enable DRL.

Yes, I have no idea how the car ran as good as it did with the wrong spark plugs(length, and heat range), and the fact that the TMIC couplers was barely attached. A shop did about 4k in work on the car about 10k before I bought it. Makes me question their work. lol.

It's not in the Twin Cities area, and I have not seen the name mentioned on here before. I'm not one to throw names around as I have no proof that someone didn't mess with anything on the car after the work was done.

Swapped out my interior lights, trunk light, and license plate lights for white L.E.D. lights. I hate that yellow glow the stock lights put off. And it gives off way more light so I can see better when rummaging around the trunk.

^Those look nice. Very OEM-ish look to them.

I got tint installed on my car today by Chris @ FlawlessFrontEnds. Went with 20% film. Here are some quick cell phone pics. I'll try to get more tomorrow if I have time.
