So I decided to chase down a rattle in my A/C when the fan was on the two highest setting in the LGT. I have put about 300 miles on the car since I picked it up. The rattle just started last week. Pulling the dash apart was similar to the WRX. It was easy enough that I didn't have to check online to pull it all apart. Just took my time.

Well I found that the owner or owners prior to CTracey were/are mechanically dumb... to a level that I have not seen in a while. I think they attempted to get the cabin air filter out, without actually removing the correct parts. I do think they attempted to take the dash apart, because there was a handful of broken clips and mounting points once you started to get into the inner dash. It really wasn't that hard to take apart, but I guess some people shouldn't work on cars. Here is the carnage.

    Still in the car.

Once I took it out of the car I had to laugh... some people are so dumb.

I am not sure if they ever got to the air filter because it looked like this.

In the end my "rattle" was the cabin fan hanging on by one screw. The rattle was the fan blades hitting the outside plastic housing... you know that part that protects the fan... that the fan should never be close to touching. When I attempted to put the correct screw in, I realized they had used a different size screw and stipped out the pastic mounting point. So a quick trip to ACE for a slightly larger screw and $0.20 later it was fixed.

Lets hope these owners prior to Chris and Myself did not attempt any other maintenance.

Round 2 with the super tones since I destroyed my first ones in my accident. Used the relay this time and I cant even tell the difference between not using it.... still better than OEM though.

I know right.... I'm not putting any more money into my car though other than extra S until I have my school and finances figured out. Light bar with 2 lights is next on my list along with some panel repaints and josh's 5 speed. Not that there is anything wrong with my 5 speed its just I'm at 210k so I should prepare for it to break.

Well he still has to swap in his 6 speed but probably late summer, sooner if I get this job in hugo. I need to pay 900 dollars so I can get back in school first.

Personally, I'd wait on the extra s then. Not really any point in wasting the time/ money on that is there?

Well yeah lol. Like I said I have no transmission issues yet but I am in Danger territory. Who knows maybe ill get 300k+, stock engine and tranny. I would get it pretty cheap though to where It would be a great deal on my part, but this is also last on my list of things to buy. Maybe I'll have cash for a 6 speed by the time I need it, who knows.... I'm not gonna do any crazy power builds either, at least not until I master my car as it is. Plus I have no interest in just pulling/driving straight so more power is pointless for me since a stage 2 WRX is more than enough power to rip corners.

Wait did you mean hold off on the extra S? Definitely not going to do that lol. Idk when the last time my transmission or rear diff have been serviced so its more of a peace at mind thing.

You know....a black purple would be cool. IDK if I would have the time to do it all myself though. Is still my DD so it would take a month or 2 to do all the body work/priming/prep for paint.

To be fair, it's really clean and the weather hasn't been always favorable. I'm keeping it garaged until next week's cruise :)

My AOS is also leaking all over the place. It's probably not draining correctly. I need to tackle that before driving much more.

Until then, Miata is a lot of fun.

Installed some new interior lighting. Bought the lights a couple months ago and finally put 'em to use somewhere. Driver's side footwell comes on with dome light, other one replaced the glovebox light. Will maybe add a passenger footwell one after I figure out how to mount it without ruining the bottom of the glove box assembly.

It all started a few weeks ago. I paid off my WRX and became the title holder. :)
Noticed a scuff mark on a front rotor. Looked like a rock had lodged behind a pad. Nope, disintegrated pads due to excessive wear and heat. (I new this was coming I already had replacement pads and rotors on the shelf). No time to replace, needed to take the car to Sheen for a detail. If you need your car to look shiny again, take it to him!
Started to replace the pads and rotors, snapped both caliper bracket bolts! Tuesday night no parts available. I was able to remove the broken bits with a lot of heat, and a few kind words. I don't think the neighbors appreciated my evening. If you are wondering the bolt size is a 12x1.25, same as a wheel stud, which fits perfectly for a temp bolt to put the car together and move it around.
Next day picked up new bolts for Morries Brooklyn Park, installed new pads, rotors, bedded in brakes and thought all was good.
I don't drive my car for work so it can sit for a few days. The next day, I needed make room in the garage for another project, a God awful noise coming from the right front. (Same wheel with the broken bolts) Did something warp with the heat? What did I install incorrectly? Nope, just a bent heat shield rubbing on the rotor. Whew!
Saturday night, getting ready for an autocross on Sunday. Installation of my Braille light weight battery, check of the fluids, general look over, all is good.
Sunday, after a couple of runs, I go to pop the hood to check the heat in the intercooler. NOTHING HAPPENS!!! What the F! Cable is moving just no release.
I leave this alone as I don't want to make matters worse at the track..
Last night I decide to tackle the latest issue. F';n car. It is not an easy deal to get a hood open when the latch is broken. My arms look like a stuck them in a sack full of feral cats! Latch unbolted, I finally got the hood open to start to diagnose this issue. Oh yea, broke a bolt for the radiator shroud. Due to the brilliance of Subaru engineering, the hood latch cable runs from the cabin, through the fender, then across the top of sharp metal edges. This caused a wear point and split the casing of the cable producing too much slack. A little duct tape to prevent the cable sheath from compressing, and I think it will hold until I order a new one.
I guess it is another trip to Morries tonight.
    End Rant!

What AOS do you have? Grimmspeed?
+1 for paying off the car! I did the same...feels great once that is accomplished.

And sorry to hear about the continued woes...no fun!

Which Braille battery did you get and how do you like it? I'm thinking about picking one up for the STI.

I see. I have the Crawford and have not had any issues yet and haven't lost any oil. Perrin's design looks similar, but looks like more areas where it could leak...hopefully it is an easy fix for you. Telflon tape or thread sealant?

    I have this one;
    http://www.braillebattery.com/index.php/braille/product_batteries/b129
It is a about 4 years old and works fine if driven every day. Since mine can site for a week, it doesn't keep its charge any more.
I've been looking at a lithium replacement. Stock is around 30+ lbs, the Braille is >10 lbs, and the lithiums are around 2 lbs.

If anyone ever wanted to know what it looks like when the rubber shifter under-boot is installed inside-out, here you go. Apparently the mechanics at the Saab dealership I bought my car from back in 2005 were not exactly Subaru experts, and when they installed the SPT short-shift kit this was the result. It had been like this ever since with no apparent issues, but as of last weekend when I installed the TiC shift pivot bushing kit it's now fixed :) I guess I should have figured something was up when I noticed the staples in it had the pointy parts facing up instead of down into the carpet...

I finally decided to man up and mutilate my hood for some much needed hood pins. Basically after the front end welding I received my hood latch was like a quarter of a inch too low so I would have to slam it hard to get it to lock and it would sit a little below the fender line. hood pins.jpg

I pulled off the oil return line and expected the AOS to just drain a ton of oil. Not a drop came out. Perhaps it emptied/drained while the car has been sitting for the past two weeks - I had been trying to get the hose to be traveling downward as much as possible.

Tonight I will reattach the hose and clean up some of the oil so it's easier to tell if it is leaking somewhere again.

I believe that rubber boot there is a unique Saabaru part that the WRX doesn't have. It's that "additional sound deadening" material that makes the Saabaru luxurious!

He doesn't have Perrin's. Perrin's a catch can style like yours (Crawford). Look at the unit where the oil cap should be. That is a GrimmSpeed AOS.
