2000 legacy (2.5) alt ps belt too loose. Tensioner as far up as it could go. Horizontal tightening bolt rubbing on belt. What the heck? Turns out the belt off the 99 legacy is a half inch shorter than the 00 and thus using that belt solved the issue. Early 00 build using 99 leftovers?
Do it!! Monster-Truck-RX? IMHO, WRX just looks so good a bit taller. I went a tad higher than stock by using the "stock-height" springs from King. Bit of a misnomer - they seem to be wound to stock dimensions, but are firmer than stock so simply don't compress as far when the weight of the car is on them. Never measured height before installation, but seems to be 3/4" higher or so.
The coil steel diameter is just massive on these king springs. Also handles the weight out off the tongue on my obxt much better then the lowering springs I had. I have a hammock mount I built that comes off the hitch receiver. With my old springs I would compress the rear suspension down to the bump stops if I didn't use a jack under the hitch to help hold the weight. These new springs barely sag 1/2" with that same setup.
the wife and i enjoyed a weekend up in Lutsen, but had to drive through some terrible blowing blizzard conditions. The kind where you go 30 in a 65 and can't see the taillights 45 feet in front of you? That kind. Well the WRX handled it great and I never once felt out of control. Felt bad once we got to some clearer conditions and 4 lane roads as I zipped by the nervous nellies. AWD for the win!
I learned that downshifting with the wrong tires in slick conditions makes you dori dori when you don’t necessarily want to dori dori.
No matter what i did she was all over the place! Scariest drive that i have ever taken in my life hands down.
It’s funny because once I owned an awd Subaru, i said never will i own a non-awd car again. Yet, here i am.
Also ordered Front sway bar end links, front sway bar bushings and lower ball joints. I need an alignment so I figure I'll replace those first, then alignment. Also might get rid of the front noise.
I have some sucka! It’s just going to take alot of work to get them swapped around. But thanks(again) for the heads up!
I had a surpringly very productive weekend of working on cars...I wasn't planning on doing any car work, but the weather was somewhat warm, and the garage floor was dry. Finished the 90k maintenance on the wife's Outback (PSA: Motive Power Bleeders are awesome): And finally installed the hitch on my Outback (the hitch arrived before the car did and has been sitting in the box for months): Next, I need to get over to my storage garage to replace the 2 broken rear wheel studs on the FRS that I failed to replace prior to storage
How was the hitch install? We want to get one for the wife's 2011 Outback so curious as to the install review!
Very easy, although I do recommend a second set of hands for when you need to bolt up the hitch. I recruited my wife lol. This is the second hitch that I've installed, and I've been kicking myself for not putting hitches on every other DD I've owned. I highly recommend etrailer.com - they have very detailed install videos for nearly every car, and their prices are great too. I've always had excellent experiences with them. Here you go: https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitch/Subaru/Outback+Wagon/2011/75673.html?vehicleid=2011301542 FYI, using a hole saw first to drill the hole (1" instead of 1 1/8") and then cleaning it up with a step bit is much easier than drilling the entire hole with a step bit. I have both bits if you want to borrow them for install - let me know.
Just out of curiosity why did you go with a class III receiver? Did they up the tongue weight rating for later years? For instance on my 2005 outback the tongue weight rating that the sub-frame can support regardless of class of hitch is 200lbs.
Several reasons...the price was nearly the same as the class II 1 1/4" hitch, higher tongue weight rating (600 lbs...I should probably look at the car's limitations though), higher towing rating, more universal for accessories (the Harbor Freight cargo carrier is 2"), etc. I figured I might as well have "more" for essentially the same price.
Well if price was nearly the same and they don't make a class II 2" receiver for your car then yea I would of done the same. I will be changing mine on my wagon from 1 1/4" to 2" in the near future.
Took my car to Kohls, Sears, Old Navy, Costco, JCPenney, Pier 1, Home Depot, Lowes, dollar store,, festival and target tonight. Funny thing was I never did stop to go in any of those stores. Oh yeah, Dick’s Sporting Goods as well. It was a parking lot tour of the funnest magnitude.
After listening to metal-on-metal for a few days, I finally did the brake job on my XT6. My old boss/current AutoZone rep convinced me to give the new Duralast GT pads a try. Did that and the premium coated Duralast Gold rotors. Up on my sweet Harbor Freight long-frame jack: 20180228_171531 by Numbchux, on Flickr And new stuff installed: 20180228_174752 by Numbchux, on Flickr Full setup, SVX 1 1/16" bore master cylinder, 2002 2.5RS front calipers/pads/rotors, stock XT6 rear rotors, 1988 Nissan 200SX rear Calipers (rear ebrake conversion), Centric braided stainless lines all around. Did a bed-in last night, and this morning, I was impressed. Best brakes on a Subaru I've ever owned. Spring will have to tell how they stack up against my Celica (although I have a brake upgrade on the shelf for it, too....).
Replaced front endlinks and sway bar bushings. Feels way better wish I got the parts for the rear. Old bushings were 20mm and new ones 21mm ride feels good and noise gone.
Removed rear swaybar from the wagon. Installed trickle charger in the brz engine compartment. Changed oil on wagon. Changed cabin air filter on the wagon.
Where did you route the power supply cable? I've thought about installing one of these in my bugeye since it hibernates in my garage all winter but have yet to sort out a clean way to do it.
Wires have not been routed yet but will get tied back with the other wires running through that same area. Its really only the positive and negative lead the other one is just a standard plugin for an outlet so easy to just flip the wire up and connect it for the winter. Reason I went with this is because it then frees up my battery charger for other tasks as well as my current battery chargers fan is super loud and annoying tone so trying to work in the garage with it running was a major source of annoyance for me.
Finally got this sweet bug deflector on yesterday. Today a much needed oil change and differential fluid too. Driving through the buckets of snow tonight remind me why I love my little Outback so much.
