m18 fuel brushless mid torque 1/2" 2860-20 Surprisingly lightweight for my tiny baby arms. Got both struts in but had to cut one bottom bolt off. No shops have em so I'll check the dealership tomorrow if no used pop up.
I mowed my car-storage area over the weekend, so I had to move everything, so I did a group photo of all 8 of my current cars. Yes, they all run and move under their own power. 20180610_140943 by Numbchux, on Flickr 3 Generations of Subaru 6-cylinder engines, ER, EG and EZ 20180610_132310 by Numbchux, on Flickr
Replaced the fuel filter, burnt out fog light, and plasti-dipped my grill and Grimmspeed license plate delete. We'll see how it turns out!

I took my car to two MN subaru recommended shops for two issues: 1. Alignment from Jeff the Alignment job - he really knows his stuff and was reasonably priced. No issue found, apparently I have some crappy tires causing issues. Needs some new rubbers for the spring! Michelin Super Sports? Any other summer everyday driver performance tire recommendations? 2. Got a detail from Sheen. Man does my car look SHINY!!
Looks great! I went with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ for my summer rubber. I wanted something that would be good for spirited driving, but still deliver good grip in inclement weather. Not that summer rubber couldn't offer that, but I wanted to get a tire that could also handle light snow in the event I got caught without enough time to swap to winter rubber.
got a very sweet brake job to the tune of $1200! replaced everything. jeepers i hope this is the end of all the expenditures to get this old nag back on the road...sure drives well though
F1 light installed and flashing. No problems. I have recently noticed some factory new vehicles that flash the third brake light. VW’s newest SUV is an example......unless this is just the latest example of them not knowing US law. STi side skirts installed. Look sharp. Pretty expensive for a thinly visible piece though. Interior blower fan cover installed. Best mod ever that you can’t see. A must for 2015+ WRX owners. How did this part not come installed from the factory? Huge difference in cabin noise reduction. Windows tinted. Looks nice. A/C works 1/3 as hard....even on the hottest days. Front Rally Armor installed. Keeps the side of the car clean. Carbon Fiber Trunk lip on back order. 8 weeks! First oil change soon. Installing Fumoto oil drain valve. Using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and Subaru stock filters.
Also.....installed Kicker Audio tweeters from Subaru. The car now has Kicker Audio in the doors and in the dash ( the tweeters). Kicker Audio are options from the factory and are made to drop right into the existing spaces for the WRX. You can buy them online from Subaru much cheaper and install yourself. I think the tweeters make the largest difference (depending on what kind of music you are listening to and the EQ selected) and the combination sounds much better than stock for way less money than a custom job. It’s fine for me. Can’t say I even considered the audio when buying this car. However, it is STILL not what I would say is really good audio. If you want that, I’m afraid it’s a new head unit and a full custom job.
Looks nice!! I have the JDM rear fog light on mine. It's a single filament bulb and wiring to match so I wired it up to turn on with the rest of the lights and it doesn't brighten with brakes. Figured I didn't need to catch the eye of cops any more than necessary and I didn't know the laws about a "low mount brake light". I do see some new cars that briefly flash the third brake light. I also installed the blower cover. I agree - it's a must-have and made my blower noise go away.
In regards to the flashing brake light, I noticed two cars this past weekend that had it. Coincidentally both were pretty new looking Mitsubishi's, so I'm guessing it was factory. I think they flash 3 times and the third time stays constant.
I am not sure about low mount brake lights but cannot imagine that would be a problem. Mine is a red lens with red LED’s as you can see in the pictures and is bright. It comes on with the rest of the lights as well. It is, in my opinion, very noticeable when you use the brakes as it rapidly flashes 5 times and then stays on bright with the other 3 brake lights.....returning to normal intensity or “off” as you release the brake. I have only had it switched to “flashing” for maybe a week. No problems yet. I may go back to non-flashing. I think if I was driving behind me.....it would bother me. And I am pretty sure if I was a cop behind me.....I would pull me over for a chit chat at least. They make the same unit with a smoked lens that is a little more stealthy.
I re-flashed the ECU with the MAP E30 Stage1 tune. Oh my lord what a difference, and only about a 2 mpg hit. Love my WRX even more now.
Finally picked up my bugeye from JM. They had her for 2 weeks (waiting in line...). She was running a little funky. Got a clean bill of health along with some small maintenance items. Happy to have her back!
Forgot my pop can on the roof as I left work, almost 2 hours later than I'm supposed to. Quickly remembered it when I hit the dip at the end of the driveway and heard it tip over. Luckily it was almost empty but still spilled a decent amount. I said f it and just drove home. Yee haw. Happy hump day!
Put a new rear sway bar in the 01 Forester. While I had it up in the air, I had a heck of a time with the bolts. Had to get a drill/tap for the solid mount that I stripped a bolt in. That was not bad to fix. Had to run a couple times to Ace for bolts. The second time, I was driving the wife's car and got a 5" chunk of steel in the middle of the tread (from road construction). Yay for me... Ran back home before it deflated. Grabbed the WRX that I haven't driven since the road was torn up. Got the bolts I needed for my 01. Fixed that. Drove the 01 to Discount Tire to fix the 09 wheel. They can't fix it. Crap! Lucky me, that's the one set of tires I bought road hazard for in the last 10 years. Full replacement for one, prorated for the other three. Debating on getting the road hazard again since we might be close to selling/trading that car. Called the city to see if they have insurance, they referred me to the construction company. We'll see what happens. All this while my wife is out of town. So glad to have 3 cars today. Just have to pick up the wheels tomorrow and swap them back on the 09.
Last 2 sets of tires I bought the hazard insurance for...haven't had to use it yet, but better to have than not to! Worth the 80 bucks for 4 if you ask me, especially with all the potholes/crap on our lovely roads up here.
Didn’t paint the calipers? Fayul. I did nothing to my Subaru, because minivan. On vacation. (Sorry, no pics of said minivan)
Did the DCTC track day with Impulse Performance yesterday. Very well organized event and the staff was super helpful and friendly. My 17 Impreza sport did really well overall! Kept up with some subpar evo, sti, brz, civic SI drivers. Aside from the obvious power disadvantage the car could greatly benefit from a bigger rear sway bar and coilovers. Lots of under steer even with the active torque vectoring. However, the car was very composed and balanced and provided good feedback.
Trip went smooth! We got back home lastnight around 7:30. Got the kids to bed, unloaded the van, and opened beers. It was a CanAm I believe.
A couple of days ago I did a deep clean of the car and thought I'd try to improve the HP via more stickers. This led me to some pin stripes. Not sure How I feel about it, but for now it'll stick around. I saw it on a Forester I follow of a guy out west, and figured it was worth $4 to try out.
