Wife and I took a trip to UPullRParts during their frozen nutz event to pick up an EJ22 for the "subaru"
And won a 50% off my next visit coupon on their spinner wheel. Probably will pickup a 5 speed transmission for a subarugears swap down the road and a spare ej22 while there's one laying around Upull
Spent more time on my 330k mile beater than it's probably worth. Modified the wiring/housings to accept 4 1157 front parking/turn lights (instead of 2 1157 and 2 1156 doing just turn), and installed Switchback LEDs. Modified the stock fog light circuit to only work while the high beams are on (I have an LED bar wired to that circuit, and I want to be able to kill everything quick when another car comes). Took this picture in the middle of that project (wired to switched power, not yet tied into the high beam circuit) with the switchback running lights on, and light bar. 20200301_164525 by Numbchux, on Flickr Installed H1 LED drop in low-beam lights. And replaced the backlights in the cruise, fog and deicer switches: 20200229_102739~01 by Numbchux, on Flickr
Is this common? I didn't know my fog light and cruise switch were supposed to be backlit until I drove another car and they were. Really would like to make mine work again. Simple as a removal and bulb change?
Replaced front right wheel bearing in the 03 WRX on Saturday. Have talented friends and access to a shop to knock it out. Replaced battery on Sunday. Next up, replace axle back. Whew...
Yea, quite common. My '00 and '04 both had all burned out bulbs, and I swapped the switches in from my parts '01, and they were, too. It's a little more in-dept than just changing them, but not much. The bulbs are not available from Subaru, they want to sell you a switch. I bought these bulbs: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L8BR76A/ Lots of write-ups showing how to do it, can't find the one I used now. But here's a decent one. https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=12840875 (blurred photobucket pics show up when opened in a new window) Have to wind the wire around the base like the originals. Takes a minute or so with a small screwdriver/pic and needlenose. I brought the switches inside so I could do them at the table. These replacements are a bit shorter than the original, so I cut a little chunk of heat shrink tubing to act as a spacer to hold the bulb up from the holder.
Picking up my new car tonight. Auto '04 FXT. My first turbo Subaru and I'm ready. It's got a low compression 255 in it right now and I'm getting a JDM 2.0 w/ the car to swap in. Evo3 is coming with the car along with BBS STi wheels and a tooooon of other goodies. I'll pick up the 71HTA and ID1050 later on from him when I get the cash. I'm excited. Picking up a brand new GS EWG setup tonight after I pick up the car too.
Thanks! It's hard to put into words how excited I am. I've got a much deeper wallet than when I started with Subarus so it's gonna be fun to see where it takes me. Hoping to get it dialed in and protuned by PG1 so I can take it to the strip
halfway thru swapping out the rusted rear subframe from Dereks old Forester... about 3hrs in and everything came out last night with minimal issue....
Super excited for his car to be done. That rear subframe was more work that I could do. I'm glad he ended up with the car. You guys will finish it up right. Pretty much everything else has been done. Looking at the photos you sent, that piece was shot. The rest of it all looked pretty good.
the issue now is I think the subframe is moving when we drove it.. suddenly the car would feel like it was sliding the rear... thought maybe it was his driving on the gravel till I drove it and it was moving around in the rear... the bushings were shot I think so now I am trying to figure out what to replace with the bolts etc - 4 of them and I need to find a diagram of how it all mounts together exactly to check.. the bolts tightened down but due to dry bushings I think they arent right... I see the lock kit for the 2 holes between each bolt... may grab one of those but I need new bushings... just not sure @tangledupinblu Josh.. my car should be if Im allowed to drive it along.. we are tweaking some tunes with the changes as it was leaning bad at high rpm.. but with the changes it now hits the main powerband (like a 2 stroke bike) at about 6500, hits full boost (17 right now) before 4000 rpm and lays rubber thru first 2 gears just pulling onto the highway not trying hahaha.. its a different beast
Yes sir! Bring it. My coworker is bringing his MR2 with a fresh engine build, that should be putting about 700 horsies to the ground.
Sold it... Well, one of them at least. Approximately 9 months ago I bought a dead bugeye WRX sedan on here with the intention of cutting it apart for a sedan conversion. After getting it home and walking by it almost everyday, I decided it was too nice to completely euthanize it so decided to fix it instead. Long story short, wife drove it most of the winter, and while she definitely enjoyed it she didn't really fall in love with it (and we'd rather have some money for house projects). It officially went to its new home yesterday. Thinking it might also be the first car deal solidified with a Corona virus elbow shake. Haha.
Some goodies I bought this week. 38mm tial wastegate, GS coated EWG uppipe, and new P&L oil feed lines for the 71HTA. Decided to go that route instead of using the Evo3. Also going to be throwing in the ID1050s with the JDM motor as I'm going to be running straight instead. All that's left to order is the high stall. Going to send in my stock torque converter next week after I discuss with IPT about what stall I want and hopefully get it to my front door before the middle of April, depending on how quick the turnaround is. Just need new tires for the STI bbs I've got and I'll be all ready to drag at proving grounds .
Oil change and front and rear differential fluid change. Tomorrow, of course on the day that it snows, I am thinking about taking off the snow tires. Too early for that?
Lol. I’m not taking mine off for at least a couple more weeks. Although, not really driving it much because layoffs, I could go either way
LOL. I may just leave them on with the current state of affairs...can't leave the house and no place to go anyway (how long will this tank of gas remain good?). Plus who knows...if I do catch C-19 and need one of the scarce ICU beds, I will lose the decision as to who to save based on my age alone, and swapping tires will be someone else's problem to deal with.
I'm waiting for new lug nuts which come next week, then I'll put summers on. I usually wait till mid/end of April to pull out the old BMW.
This is why I wait till the 1st weekend in may. Sure it could still snow but chances are much better it wont then vs the 1st week of April.
Still holding out on swapping the summers back on. Maybe will reevaluate next week after we have a couple days with highs in the 30s... Had some serious curb rash on one of my summer wheels but I took a dremel and sandpaper to it the other day. Bronze is a tough color to match but I did my best. It's not perfect but certainly better than leaving the scrapes on there.
Boredom got to me yesterday so I ended up throwing some vinyl on to change up the look for the summer
You have summoned the Nordic snow gods and they have answered. Don’t go for a drive on Sunday. Bent wheels and control arms suuuuck!
