Damn that's sad. I'm sure they were all junk anyway and it was probably justified, but still. Pour one out.

Looks like you obviously took them in for scrap. Mind sharing what you got for each one? And reason for going there vs taking them to a U-Pull type setup. I'm gonna be in this same situation in the very near future.

Scrap cars at my favorite scrapyard near the old house is $55/ton right now. The Outback was a pretty bare shell, no engine, transmission, suspension, radiator support, etc. I think it weighed like 2100. The XT6 still had it's own engine and 4EAT, and the interior and trunk were packed with stuff and riding lawn mower decks underneath it. It weighed 3460.

I didn't get a quote from a junkyard, I assumed they wouldn't want them, as I kept anything of any use.

Yea, both were terrifyingly rusty. Loading up the Outback was terrifying, as the jack would just crush or punch through what was left of the structure. I parted the XT6 on the trailer, but once it got down to it, I had to jack one side a bit so I could open the door, so I actually found a fairly solid point in the rear wheel well, but lifting it just from one corner caused the chassis to twist so badly, the door latch was probably 3" off. I couldn't close the door until I set the car back down. And I kept a LOT of parts. The Outback had 345k Minnesota miles on it, the XT6 probably less than 150k, but it had been crashed 3 times, broken into, and 35 years in MN.

In other news, I negotiated a purchase of a new car yesterday. Paperwork will be done on Saturday. Hopefully I will be able to get it picked up in the next couple weeks. It will be the newest Subaru we've ever owned, and my first one with this type of engine, but rare and weird enough to fit right in.

Of course, it will need to be trailered home....but runs and drives as-is, so hopefully I can get it back on the road relatively quickly.

Are they easier to work on when that type of hoist is used?

Yep. They get really simple at that point. Hardly any work at that point.

I've been lazy to post here, but I've done some exhaust upgrades to my "GRZ" (aka GR86).

Miltek secondary catback exhaust and MAP Equal Length headers (got it Cerakote coated first).

Are you planning to stay with standard pump gas? Or go e85?

Eventually going to do an E85 tune. Not sure when but was originally thinking of after my warranty is up...but I'm not going to wait another 2-4 years honestly. Maybe Delicious Tunning or CSG or something that has a E85 sensor detection kit.

Defined won't do it this year and maybe next summer. Done spending any extra on mods for this car for now. Running pump gas and no tune (but 93 octane BP typically). It definitely improveed the overall power delivery across the Rev range and got rid of some of the mediocore dead spots above 4k+ rpm in every gear.

Just curious. I thought tunes were needed for headers? Either way, they look nice with the Cerakote on there!

It runs just fine on the FA24 engine with no tune. But it won't be maximized for power gains without one. But the ECU will adjust accordingly. Doesn't make sense to get a tune unless I go E85 because the gains on pump gas aren't much compared to the cost investment though.

Not sure about the FA20 (or whatever the engine code is for the GT86/BRZ previous gen 2.0l engine though. But I believe it also can run fine without a tune and you'll see plenty of gains. Most of the headers are for the previous Gen as it's the same piping and engine block setup anyways. Not a lot of actual Gen 2 specific headers because it didn't really change "that much" physically speaking on the exhaust and header layout.

Been running almost 300 miles with the MAP headers and no cell and runs smoothly but with a bit more power all throughout. No CEL with the included hi flow CAT.

I was driving down a main road going about 45-50, she was coming the other way and decided to make a left hand turn in front of me. Swerved into the other lane and clipped the back of her minivan. Probably would have killed her passenger if I stayed in my lane.

I almost lost my most recent AE86 the same way last week. psycho Karen in a 2024 Escalade driving on two wheels. Probably would have driven right over without slowing.

Well, good things can come out…just picked up a 2017 FXT with 2 old people as previous owners. Probably just going to do some mild suspension work to it so it handles like my old one (thicker rear sway bar, lowering springs (probably either STi or Mann), endlinks, and have to call up Cobb to have them reflash my AccessPort so it works on the new car.

Drilled some holes in a perfectly good hatch in favor of mounting a factory spoiler that I recently scored at U-Pull. Soooo much better.

Almost positive it's coolant by the smell. After looking at it more, it almost looks like it came from the intercooler line in front of the intake manifold.

Took the Forester in and got the Temperature Control Valve replaced. Thought it was going to be a couple thousand, but Subaru extended the warranty on the TCV to 10yrs/150k so they got us all patched up and out the door for nothing. Good to have heat in the car again (and I get the WRX back).

Today, the legacy decided coolant goes on the outside of the engine. The entire engine. Everywhere.

    Not cool, legacy. Not cool.

At least it happened close to home.

Like brushing your teeth with sprite.

Good thing it's too cold to rinse it off before it becomes a "forever sticky" mess.

AutoZone didn't have a replacement rad hose, but they did have a replacement battery for the backup car, since it didn't want to start again in the parking lot...

Because when it rains, it's probably coolant.

Not sure if this is a sign I have thermostat or other cooling issues, so I'm torn on if I'll replace the hose, toss some fluid in, and send it..? Or if I should do it right.

Another weird timing thing... The nav started bootlooping this morning, rendering the display that brags "18mpg avg" to my passengers worthless.

So the "what did you do to your Subaru today?" I put it in a timeout. And if it gives me lip again I'm putting it up for sale.

How old is that hose? I assume it is OE because of the clamp...only because most of us still use the worm gear clamps when we remove an original clamp even though that design supposedly has more evenly distributed clamping power than a worm gear clamp.

I'm assuming it's original. I bought the car with 140k and it's got 164k now. I haven't replaced anything on the engine side since getting it.

I'd just replace the hose and coolant and call it good. I assume the hose died of old age. Some things get hard with age (rubber) and some other things don't get hard with age.
