Bought an 04 XT a few weeks ago, constant misfire code cyl 2. Replaced all the cheap stuff only to find Exhaust valves are leaking, time to pull an engine and swap heads!

Good news is time kit looks fresh!

It is but it’s an Auto. Only shows 101k miles and body has zero rust. There are some other body issues to take care of but it’s all plastic cosmetic and bumper or wheel well related

Much more subtle, but much more work. swapped out the turbo inlet and recirculating hose. Turbo inlet, honestly not as bad as everyone says. all the new fittings and moreso the recirculating hose, pain in the but.

Got the truck tires back on. Loud AF. But look good. Yeah, still sitting wonky after being lifted and tires swapped.

Swapped to the 15 sti steering rack yesterday 10/10 would not recommend. Steering is quite a bit stiffer.
Also did plugs, rolled fenders, rear sway bar links, and a temp sensor in the oil pan.

    I was really masochistic apparently.

today I’m going to try more sound proofing on that damn blower motor cover.

I have been considering this as my steering rack appears to be on its way out of the chat.

Would you do it again? If not yourself, then pay someone to? Or replace with new OEM of the same MY? I have heard that they are just crap

The replacing is a major pain if only because the hoses connecting to the pump are really challenging to get to and almost always seized. I had to replace the hoses on my wrx so this wasn’t my first rodeo. In this instance it was the pinion. I knew it would be a lot.
I was ended up cutting off the tubing and just using a ratchet, but even getting the new lines mounted up is a pain.

still would totally do it again if I had to, than pay 800$ to have it done.

If I could have done it over I’d absolutely stay with the same my’ rack. I think it’s cheaper too. But I mostly city drive and in parking lots a lot so the easy steering is certainly going to be missed.

That is strange. The 2015+ rack is a 13:1 ratio and the 2008-2014 is a 15:1 ratio. I wonder why it would feel heavier or slower? Should feel quicker/more sharp? I had the 13:1 in the BRZ with electric assist and it was what I consider to be the perfect combo. I know that if I switch to the 2015 - 13:1 rack that it won’t feel like the BRZ. But I was hoping that it would feel slightly lighter/quicker

    And hopefully fail less. Lol

    lol hopefully fail less indeed.

It takes less turns of the wheel to turn the wheels, so it is in fact “tighter”

but I don’t think the pump is built for that spec, so because of that it’s a little heavier to turn the wheel if that makes sense.

Let’s hope not, I swapped two weeks ago.
Also just installed the overtake: driveshaft lock down, Trans mount bushings, rear diff carrier bushings. ****ing love them. Seems like every little shift when I slightly drop the clutch and the whole car bounces around, it doesn’t do that anymore

Dropped off the '15 XT for the tranny seal and stuff. Got a 2026 Forester Wilderness for the week. Not sure I'd want to replace the monster tablet of a radio when it goes out or the fully digital gauge cluster. Life time warranty on those is a must. Other than that, it's slow but I really like the interior. Also, the hands free lane assist is cool as long as you're ok with bouncing side to side off the paint and still maintaining your hand(s) on the wheel.

Got the tranny seal done, coolant/thermostat and rear main seal (while yer in there). All I got left is some new filters, oil change and rear diff fluid. And the new mid-pipe. Funny, the multi-point inspection was 100% green. I'm absolutely happy with my recent service on my cars at Morrie's. Best service and best parts depts ever.

I didn't realize before the replacement that a lot of the front end vibrations were coming from a combination of that and my due-for-replacement engine mounts. The car has 270k now and I know it needs another set of axles and ball joints, but I didn't think it could get that bad with the old pulley. Lots of front end vibrations while cornering and hard accelerations. I've noticed a quicker throttle response as well, but I theorize that the old pulley was giving off false knock and pulling timing. I don't feel like pulling the anxiety port out to see though.

And another. Overtake rad hoses and Top mount couplers. waiting for HPS to drop an ancillary hose kit for the STI as the one they have for the WRX only like half the hoses are right with the different turbo lines and what not. Thinking about swapping all the hose clamps with black stainless pinch clamps too, just to tidy it all up.
