My new replacement headlight looked much better than the other remaining one and this made the car look funny. So today's project was to remove the old headlight, sand it down to remove the pitting, shine it back up, and reinstall. A few pictures from the process

Here is how the light started out:

Here it is after some sandpaper action:

And here it is all done:

I used the Maguiar's one, on a mildly hazy light, and I thought for a $20, 20-minute fix, it did pretty well. Just cleaned the light, buffed it for a couple beer's time with the high speed drill, wiped it down, and now it's pretty darn close to the newer replaced light. I'm sure if the light was much worse, or if I was shooting for perfection, wetsanding would have been the way.

EDIT: In other news, I cleared my CEL for the catalytic converter under performance code and still need to stop the water from leaking into my trunk in the car wash.

did my front brakes today! nice to have some that arent grinding, warping, and/or squeaking..although they were past the warping and squeaking by about 6 months. they started grinding about 3 weeks ago and finally my brake pad fell out while i was driving today, yikes!

got done with my pass. front, moved on to the driver's front and got her all taken care of. just as i was bolting the last caliper bracket holder bolt it had cross threaded itself (****!!). so now im in a bind, its 8pm and all the dealership parts departments are closed, no one has a caliper bolt or a bracket and transportation is absolutely essential this week, so i had to think of something clever. tap and dye it out! so i dyed the bolt, too bad cast iron is so stubborn that it didnt really work i just messed the threads up even more, so a buddy of mine found a bolt in my bolt box, we picked out a tap that cooresponded and went to town. an hour later after having to drill out part of my hub knuckle for the new bolt to fit and drilling out the chopped up threads inside the caliper bracket AND re tapping the caliper bracket again, we got her done. bolted them up and off i went for a test drive. she stops on a dime now.

moral of the story make sure youre emotionally ready and physically commited before you tap and dye cast iron because we were shaving the teeth on the tap and dye set. whew glad its done.

Stayed up late last night getting rid of the STI catback. Replaced the midpipe with an SPT 3", and a friend put together a sweet custom full 3" axleback, all stainless, with a Borla XS-Pro muffler. Welded the STI catback's tip onto the exit and it looks stealthy, but doesn't sound stealthy :)

I searched the entire engine bay for loose connectors or bad grounds, inspected the spark plugs, tightend the screws that mount the coil packs, and STILL THIS THING WILL NOT START...

Started looking into the ecu.... pulled the cover off, and.... the bottom connector was unplugged.

Plug that bitch back in and she started right up!

    YAY! The 06 is started!

Got my front brake pads replaced and rotors resurfaced...Whew, did that make a difference! I heart my Subie long time.

Later on, I'm going to give her a bath, and then we'll cuddle under the moonlight.

No time lately to hand wash her, so I had Perfect 10 give her a good cleaning this morning. Still the best car wash I've found yet, and they always have some classic car displayed in the lobby to drool over while you wait.

Scuba Steve installed the following Invidia DP, Cobb CBE and Grimmspeed Boost Controller. Open road tune by Bullwinkle! People weren't kidding when they told me my car would be a whole other animal after stage 2. Sounds great and holy boost batman!

Oh yeah, Idget performed a complete detailing service on the car. It's never looked better since I've owned it!

    Good weekend indeed!

Changed spark plugs, motor oil, and transmisson lube. Spark plugs were not nearly as difficult to change as some of the fourums were saying, (on 06 wrx). Why do auto parts stores always seem to have only 2 quarts of each gear lube. After going to 6 stores I finally had enough to do my trans. FYI O'Riellys doesnt carry valvoline gear lube any more.

I finally put on my new tabs (only a couple months late) and replaced the old rusty license plate bolts with shiny new ones. Then I went over to my buddies shop and threw on his old magnaflow cat back. We also buffed the trunk so you can't see the marks from where I debadged it. I then came home and powdercoated his turbo and some other lil parts. Fewfta what a day.

Nothing today, but did some things over the weekend.

I had some goofy hesitation problems on my Forester.
-I did plugs and wires, around time to do them anyways. Still had hesitation. -Checked codes, bad knock sensor. I took off the knock sensor, lots of corrosion build up. I cleaned it, car got a lot better.
-Still had goofy hesitation issues, replaced knock sensor (old still good though)
-Still had goofy hesitation issues, cleaned up battery connections (+ was very bad), and main grounds. Better, still odd hesitation at idle.
-Did data logging and found messy results below 3k rpm.
-Dug around a bit on the car, noticed one of the new plug wires came off (or was never fully on) one of my plugs, Doh! Fixed, no hesitation, and the car's running like a champ.

*** The only bad thing on the car was the corroded connections ***

I also fiddled with the intake, put my old cone filter on TB failure on now with my newer SRS-20 flash to try it with different tuning. Data logged and plotted TQ/HP. I repeated with stock. It actually turned out well for power this time around. I previously tested the ideal with my SRS-10 flash and it yielded poor results relative to stock. With the SRS-20, it beat it. New flash = the win! There's issues with AFR using the cone filter directly on the TB though that I can't fix without reprogramming the ECU. It doesn't exist when using the stock intake box though. I've got a CF hood with a scoop (comes with the hood and the only non steel hood available for older SF Foresters). I want to make use of it, so the cone filter or a hacked up stock air box is desirable. The stock air box doesn't mess up the AFR, so that's my end route. I just need to fab up some plumbing for it.

Been starting on building baffles for my 3-way front stage speaker setup, 1" + 3.5" + 8" in the doors, plus I'm finally putting my sub back in my car. I should finish up the setup hopefully this weekend. That will be cool. I've been without speakers for a couple months now in an attempt to force myself to actually do this. If anyone's curious, what's going in is Seas alum. neo tweeters, Vifa TG9 mids, Peerless XLS midbass, and DIYMA sub in a ported enclosure. It should sound pretty spiffy once I balance everything out and get it dialed in.

Mounted my winter tires on the new (to me) wheels. I know it's a bit early in the season, but since I am going to be out of the country until mid-October and my summer tires are just about bald, I figured I would just mount them up now.
