Installed the pistons and other misc stuff to the engine (water pump, access covers, ect.). On hold with the heads as some of the bolts are in question. Even had the 6 year old wrenching on it. She is a great helper some days.

I changed the gas filler tube on my wife's 99 impreza. I couldn't believe how much salt and crap was packed in around the top, behind that worthless plastic cover. the filler tube itself wasn't rusted through, but all the breather hoses and that valve up there were corroded and broken off.

I'd suggest to people to take that plastic cover off and inspect under there, and also disassemble the cover around the gas cap and see if there's any rust forming in there. Clean it up and hit it with some spray undercoating.

Well I guess now would be a good time to do that on my '98 being I have the engine and trans out and need to do some rust repair in the engine bay too. Thanks for the info.

And I just finished changing the cam seals on my wife's impreza today. SOHC engines sure are easy to work on. Repainted her winter wheels last sat, new axle on wed, filler tube and a little rust repair on the fenders on fri and cam seals today, hopefully I'm done with her car for a while.

I pulled my timing covers off to change my timing belt at 113000,and was pleased to find it in allmost pristine condition, tight in all the right places and not chewd on the corners or anything,so I decided 2 just simply leave it an reasemble the covers and call it a day.ill keep checking it and replace it when it needs it,this is the nice part about being a mechanic!

Changed the accessory belts. Bled the clutch, that was a pain, but worth it. Checked the intercooler, still no oil at all coming out of the turbo. Took the gas cap cover and filler tube cover apart, cleaned up the little bit of rust and sprayed some undercoating in there. The plastic cover seals a lot better on the 03 vs the 99 impreza, but the filler tube was still starting to rust.

I replaced my intake snorkel. My old one may or may not have been on the roof of my car when i started to drive down McKnight, and could have maybe been run over by a few cars. But nothing gorilla tape can't fix for a day. Stupid mistake not putting it back on when I realized it was still sitting on my work bench. I was like… “I’ll just set it on my roof so I see it before I drive off and I can put it on then” Opps, guess not. I should have just opened the hood back up and put it on.... but it is a $30 lesson that I learned.

Also tested out the new snowboard rack with my new snowboards. FTW

the stock subaru brand rack looks really tall compared to after markets...is this true?

also how the hell are you supposed to use accessories (bikes, boxes, etc) without bending over and buying them from Subaru

regardless. makes me want to put the rack on for something to do.

I love the rack, but I ride a wide board. My board and my wifes board fits with less than 1/2 inch to spare. As well, it is hard to close the rack with both boards in there. It will work, and I am not saying that you want a ton of space in there.... but a bit more space would be nice. This rack is made for SKIs and can be used for SNOWBOARDS. It is called a ski rack on the box. I almost took it back, but I don't want a door hook rack... and it works so I will live with it.
