I've got a question. And not trying to be a dick in the slightest. Just curious. Other than the cool factor of saying yeah, I printed this **** in plastic and 3d, what is the legitimate function of these things? Again, I think it's cool as hell and am not downplaying it at all, but just curious. Seems like a novelty type thing without knowing why.
Affordable and fast way to prototype. Can be used to make a lot of useful things with the right materials.
when i was still in the engineering program I used them to create interference models so you could actually manipulate the thing you are designing. It's one thing to let a computer tell you it won't work, it's another when you can physically try it and come up with something that works better. Also it paves the way for better more useful 3d printers
In the past I used a friends to prototype a few adapter plates for our race car to ensure my measurements were correct before paying to have it laser cut out of steel. Right now I'm just learning to use it by printing fun models of spaceships and engine parts but am planning to make brackets for interior parts of the race car. Example of test part:
So you basically design something to an exact spec, then print it and fit it. Once you figure it out, you use the same measurements and have it cnc'd out of whatever metal you need? That's pretty bad ass.
Yeah pretty much! Otherwise if it doesn't need to be load supporting you can use the printed part. For instance gauge pods, display mounts, cable management, etc. It can be pretty accurate if assembled and calibrated correctly. I have mine running around +/-0.1mm right now and should be able to get it a little better with some fiddling.
Finally finished putting together my new to me bike, 2014 Supersix Evo frame with Shimano 6800 11 speed components (for you bike nerds). To make the wife happy since I had to ask for forgiveness for this purchase, she got the better end of the deal (upgrade her car to a newer version of the same model she had):
Yeah, I really am a bike nerd when it comes down to it. We were looking for a new car anyways because her's was old and I got sick of thinking of what had to be fixed next on a car with over 200k on the odo so timing worked out just right. I half joke that her new car makes up for the bike purchase along with being her Christmas and Birthday presents for the next 2 years. (We'll see how that really goes in a few months ). Wife doesn't know yet but next year I might try to buy some better race wheels for the fancy bike (I also have a Time Trial Bike) and hopefully a powermeter too.
I guess you could technically call it one of those bikes ($$$$) but it is a pita to bring it back and forth from inside to outside honestly. That and the wife would probably make me sleep in the garage if I left it indoors most of the time.
The only Black Friday I did was yesterday to Home Depot. There were some pretty solid deals going on, and quite a few online that are tempting. I've been eying this rolling 3-piece box for quite some time, and fortunately this was one of the deals that they had going. Also hope to update again later on with a new snow blower! (I have to try and act super excited about spending this money on a dang snow blower, but the other one fully crapped out.) EDIT: Ended up purchasing a Toro Power Clear 721 snow blower. We decided to spring for the electric start option as well, which I think will be really nice, especially after the "honeymoon phase" of a slick pull start wears out. Our other blower was a late 90's Toro, and it was great for a $70 repaired blower from a neighbor in New Brighton, and lasted 3 winters (2 getting frequent use). Hope this one has a nice long life.
As for bikes that need to be kept in the house...building one atm...old 90's Barracuda Easton. Still sourcing era specific XTR parts for it.
These shirts are all over the place... https://teespring.com/wrx_xmas https://teespring.com/subiewagonchristmas http://www.redbubble.com/people/snoshado/works/13246601-wrx-ugly-christmas-sweater-2015?p=t-shirt etc...
Since I was in a accident with the wrx (not my fault got rear ended) I bought a 99 Forseter S. Somehow it wont let me upload the pics from my phone it says the file is too big
Hey Spoiled rich kid, did mommy and daddy buy that? because the bobcat is like $40k. You miserable spoiled richkid who is in denial.
MinnesotaFTW: "No, never said you're jealous of me. You're jealous of someone's success in working his/her ass off, because you never got the opportunity to succeed." Translation: I am a 16 year old spoiled rich kid.
Oh, so your reading comprehension is just poor, or you're above the thread title. What is your most recent purchase? - pics required. Damn youth these days.
Just bought my own Razer Tartarus and Blackwidow after borrowing a coworkers a few times. I really like the Programmable G function buttons for frequent scripting and powershell commands.
So wait, what is the little keypad thing? Just an additional set of keys or a mouse with keys or... ? My G15 got left in front of a window so probably need something else... edit: Never mind, found it: http://www.amazon.com/Razer-RZ07-01030100-R3U1-Tartarus-Gaming-Keypad/dp/B00EHBKUTE
yeah basically, you can program the keys to do anything you want. ie it takes "$UserCredential = Get-Credential $Session = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri https://outlook.office365.com/powershell-liveid/ -Credential $UserCredential -Authentication Basic -AllowRedirection" and turns it into "click"
Nice! So I could put //TODO: Refactor into shared method/assembly for sane reuse. Knock it off with the copypasta maintenance nightmare. as a macro? Offshore code review easy button!
