Extra virgin olive oil is full of healthy fat... I read recently though that coconut oil and peanut oil are actually not nearly as bad for the body as nutritionists and scientists once thought, in fact there may be health benefits to both.
I have heard that as well. It was the hydrogenated versions of the oils that were evil. Supposedly straight, unprocessed coconut oil is very good for you.
and tastey as hell. I eat 4-5tbs a day. There are also arguments and studies that suggest overcooking of oils are what essentially make them inflammatory or harder to process. What are we taking about again? Me so hungy
I have spun bearings in 4 engines using Mobil 1, not saying it had anything to do with it. But I use rotella t6 now.
do most people go over 1 ga. (4qts) per T6 fill? I'm trying to decide whether or not to buy 2 jugs to be safe. The factory specs say it can take anywhere from 3.7 to 4.5 quarts.
Buy two. Worst case, you have some to add when you need to top off your car. It is ideal to stick with the same oil. So you really can't go wrong, you just have more for next time. Advanced Auto will price match to 23.99 (they can't match Wal-Mart) but if you get 2 jugs you can go online and get $10 back. I think their retail price is $27.99
O.K I' am switching now after reading up on this subject. So Amsoil or T6 it is but is the OEM filter O.K to use with either of these??. This is my second motor in the car and it should be broke in with everything seated right. I' am running factory oil which I would think is the M1 and I have never burned any oil, Levels have always checked out. My spun barring was another issue but it is always in the back of my mind. Still will change every 3,000 to 3,500 no matter what kind is in there. That's just me I guess. ******************D
I am with Tran. Purelator Pure One. You can pick them up at Advanced Auto off of White Bear next to Rainbow Foods.
I don't want to beat a dead horse here, and understand that T6 is widely accepted as the best oil for our engines, but how does everyone justify that it is a partial synthetic? Is it because we change at 3-3.5k and therefore something like amsoil fully synthetic are a waste?
I was using AMSoil for 60k before my build. The engine internals looked great. If I was going 3k - 4k then I would consider AMSoil again. I am changing more often with the new motor... so T6 is the car blood I'll use from now on.
I wanna say he used 5-w30 in the summer and 0-w30 in the winter. I know he definitely used 0w-30. I ran the 0w-30 year round. I liked it a lot.
So going with the majority here, I will be using the T6 with Purolator. What mileage are people changing oil at with this setup?
T6 on Amazon Subscribe and Save after the 15% discount is only $17.xx. Delivered monthly. Pair with a Advance Auto $5 Purolator PureOne filter, and you have cheap oil change.
I ran Valvoline Full Synthetic for engine oil. And Valvoline’s high mileage synthetic blend later on in the motors life. FYI
Yeah I thought that was weird too but I've been running it for a while now with no issues. Recently started using motul but it's a bit more expensive. If you go the motul route you can get it at JM auto cheaper than anywhere even online.
Yeah. I've been running it for years with seemingly no issues. When I first got my WRX like 7-8 years ago it seemed like that's the only oil people used. "T6, bruh..." was always the answer, so that's what I've used since I got it. I was under the assumption that it wasn't necessarily the "best" option but was readily available and "good enough". But now lately I've been reading/hearing rumblings about Shell reformulating it somewhat recently and it's no longer the same as it used to be. So now it might technically still be "good enough", but just not quite as good? I don't know. The nerdy tech speak about oil is a little over my head, honestly. That and I bought two 5 gallon pails at Fleet Farm a couple years ago when they were on sale and had a crazy rebate. So if by some act of God my car is still alive by the time I use up all of this T6, then perhaps I'll consider switching to a different brand. (And that's most definitely a rip on my car and not the oil...)
I did end up ordering 5 qts through Amazon with some oem filters and some oem super extra high performance gear lube. I also decided to send an blackstone labs sample in to get the low down on the car. 3000 miles since February, lightest year of driving ever.
Yeah I read something about all that too but then also have seen some stuff saying it's still fine. I think it's like they increased the amount of zinc or something.
That happened to a few oil blends the aircooled vw guys run too. I guess one of the blends suddenly dropped the zinc count by like 70% or something and started eating race motors. Pretty much all the oil snob guys now run the Valvoline ZR1 high zinc race oil lol.
