well my last 2 oil changes ive had some nice gold flake in my oil. i would have brought it to a dealer before my 60,000 was up but i dont trust any dealer since i got screwed over at brooklyn park subaru. I had my car in for a tranny that went out from normal driving and they said i beat on it. the fact was that it was the owner before me that did cause right after i got the car my center diff went out. they fixed that, but still never fixed other problems i have. like when i let off the gas when im between 5 to 10 lbs of boost my car will keep reving, and they never fixed that. also when my car was there to get the tranny done it got broke into and i got screwed on that also. so some $7,000 later and a month i finall had my car back. but anyways what should i do about this damn motor that has been nothing but problems since i got the car? oh ya its a 03 sonic yellow wrx that i got from brooklyn park, and i wish i would have kept looking now. but should i just get a sti bottom end and go from there? this of corse will have to wait till i get a damn job if my car even make it that damn long.

well I think you pretty much answered your own question.. you hate dealers, you are jobless so you will have to wait to replace the engine yourself with YOUR own money!

sooo a 2.5 long block swap? Cause i dont think 2.0 heads fit a 2.5 short block.

So the valves on the 2.0 won't smash into the 2.5 pistons?

the 2.0 heads bolt right up to the 2.5 block and you should have no valve slap whatsoever ... wanna know how i know... ive done it.

and to the OP you should have taken it to the dealer before your warranty was up, but because of your hatred you will now have to spend hundreds maybe thousands of dollars to fix you car when you have no job.

the dealer would have fixed it and given you a rental until the repairs were done. yea dealerships **** you a lot but when it comes to warranty repairs, they have to because you are protected by US law. dont get me wrong they'll try to screw you over but they'll fail. i know all this from personal experience.

    good luck to ya.

What legendx is meaning to say is that by using the STi EJ257 block, there is no more of a chance that the valves will contact the pistons when using a EJ205 (WRX) block.

The compression ratio will change however, and may create knock issues if not addressed properly.

The fact that you hate dealers shouldn't have stopped you from taking your car back to where it was serviced if it wasn't fixed properly the first time. If you were noticing metal flake in your oil, you should have taken it in to get serviced instead of continuing to drive it! In that case, you cannot blame the previous driver/owner, because you now own it, and should be taking proper care of it.

whatever they say to you about abuse they would have to prove.

for instance, if they see an exhaust on your car and you have a spun bearing; if they use the exhaust and say "you modified your car, the warranty is voided" then what they are doing is illegal. you would then have to ask them to prove that the exhaust directly caused damage to the rod bearing, which they wont be able to and therefore must fix your car.

how did they void your warranty due to the tranny and how long ago?

well they voided it cause there were teeth missing from first gear, but it broke shifting into 3rd. I only had 54,000 miles on it then if even that, now im at 66,000ish. Right now I regret buying this car, not cause of it being a WRX I wanted one of them, but this one is just a dud cause of the person before me.

Actually your not 100% correct. They can deny warranty repairs if certain parts of the exhaust has been changed/modified. And if you have a catless/catted aftermarket downpipe, then you yourself have committed a federal felony.

Warranty claims are usually up to the dealers discretion. If your first gear had teeth missing, then there is a 95% chance that it was caused by abuse. It doesn't matter if it broke when shifting to 3rd gear or not. It doesn't even matter if the previous owner did the damaging.

The probably didn't void your engine warranty, they more than likely voided any transmission warranty repairs that would occur from further abuse. That has happened from time to time, as Subaru doesn't wish to pay for drivers mistakes. Your repair was probably "Good Will" from Subaru, meaning that it's not warranty, but you don't pay for it. Following a good will repair, they can take away remaining warranty on the major item that was repaired(ie. your trans).

Keep in mind he said 60,000 warranty. That doesn't sound like a Subaru warranty, that sounds like one of the add-on warranties they sell through Subaru at best. Those warranties may have Subaru's name on them, but they are administered by a third party, and third party warranties are largely not worth the paper they're printed on. Most of them will pretty much deny any repair they possibly can, with any tiny shred they can grasp at to void it. They also pay even less than factory warranty for labor 9which is already usually a lot less than the shop rate), so the dealer isn't exactly hopping up and down with glee about working on the car for damn little (and knowing that if they do there's a good chance the claim will be rejected anyhow).

Actually, the one that Subaru works with is supposed to be better than a lot of the 3rd parties, but it's just a matter of degree.

Now if this is the 60k factory powertrain warranty, I dunno.

ya it was the fatory warranty. I just wish the stupid dealer would have fixed the crap that was wrong with it, they knew there was stuff messed it up cause i took a tech for a drive and he said there was **** wrong with it. i had the car at that same dealer for the same things at least 4 to 5 times, but they never fixed it. its just going to be fun trrying to get the money for the 2.5 short block, all new gaskets and so on and ive needed a new turbo since 10,000~ miles ago. oh ya and i will need to get it tuned, i just dont know how ill ever get that kind of money it sucks. and to top it off ive only ever been able to get 15mpg at the max, no matter how i drive. it seems like i get better mpg the harder i drive it.

Actually, SAS (Subaru Added Security) is sold directly from Subaru. That is your best chance at an extended warranty. They usually cover everything on the Gold package, and the Classic points out what it covers and doesn't. Very clear, and easy to understand.

As far as Factory Warranty, you get a 3-Year/36,000 mile New Car Warranty, and a 5-Year/60,000 mile Powertrain warranty. The Powertrain warranty doesn't cover everything related to your engine or trans, but covers most the major stuff.

You should have brought it to another dealer then. Or you should have taken it back to wherever it was, and told them you wanted it fixed correctly.

i would have but also at that time i was working 80hrs a week and no one had a car for me to drive while it was at the dealer, i called around, i did at least 2 times a week. i was a manager at a pizza hut, a shift manager but since our store managers sucked ass i was the one runnning the store. i had to do the inventory, payroll, truck ordering, and fix all kinds of errors in the main book work. and it was like i was on call also cause i got called everyday for something being wrong. but i got fired from that job last may for sexual harassment after writing up a waitress that was cussing at me infront of the customers. then she told out winner of a DM that i sexually harassed her and they one thing led to another. so i got screwed there, and now ever since that store has gone down hill in every way, and cant keep a crew or any managers. i would not eat from that store at all cause they dont keep up with the cleaning there and there is damn mold in the freezer. anyways i got way off track there sorry, but back then i could have had the money to fix my car with the $1,300 checks i was getting. and i am supost to be working right now but i cant cause ive got 2 herniated in my neck. and ive also had 2 other job offers since then that i cant do also cause of this problem that im trying to get fixed. so i just seem to be full bad luck.
