I have been away from the fourm for a while while dealing with a divorce. I have had my 97 Legacy GT for a year and then I hit a deer. While putting together a plan to repair the body damage,It blew a head gasket a couple weeks later. I only have a few hundred bucks to fix the car...or should I part it out or sell it as it sits? I don't know what to do. I love the car!
i would assume u had insurance so fix the head gasket with that money, find a junkyard headlight, and fix the rest when ya get the $$$$ that fender can be pounded out easily enuf, and im sure some one on here could and would help ya with the gasket and fender and headlight if ya need it... we are all friendly enuf and 90% know how to turn a wrench..
I was dumb and took off the full coverage three months ago to save money. I have a new clutch lees than 8,000 miles ago. Tires are a year old. I can turn a wrench and don't mind getting dirty, I just don't know what the car is worth sitting there VS fixed.
I like this idea minus the full converage insurance. The car still looks very nice. the L-GT are somewhat hard to find these days(well, at least when I want one there's none).
i have a set of fenders that would work on it and if the headlights are the same as a 97 impreza i think i have at least one good light around here the drivers side had a hole in it and the passengers side was fine. the fenders are for a 97 as well but they look to be the same someone correct me if im wrong thaks
So is the head gasket replacement a big deal? All I have are the basic of tools. As for parts on the body, I do still have the grill. I don't think any Impreza body panel will fit a Legacy. Outback parts would. The car is a manual. The clutch has less than 8000 miles on it.
the car has 175,000 miles on it. I'm in no hurry to move it, but if someone wants to come to the Mankato area to look at it, I will entertain offers. If I can't get what I think it's worth, I will start fixing it. Thanks everyone for your advice and feed back.
I really don't know. That is my biggest problem I have right now is establishing value. It's still a nice car, I just don't know if I have the time or funds like I use to, yet someone else just might. I wouldn't mind some ball park numbers. Thanks again guys!
blue book it. kbb.com do it perfect, and smashed, and figure if its worth your time to get from the low to the high
