Check the fluid level too. Not sure if the dummy light would come on before that started happening, but it's worth a check. If the pads are worn down you might have to push a little further, but I don't know what would cause a sudden need for more pedal travel.

u might have an air pocket in your brakelines too...I would check fluid like Readymix said and maybe bleed them as well.

It sounds like air pockets to me. HAve you driven your car hard, lately? Braked continuously for long periods of time or done some track-work? You may have boiled the fluid.

Bleed the brakes (I like gravity bleeding, myself) and check your pad level again. I don't know how you could do it without hearing it but metal on metal gets things very hot, very fast.

I figured I would also be able to hear it if it was metal on metal. I did, however, have to press on the brakes rather hard and quickly yesterday and it did make a ****ed up noise/feeling.

I haven't done any extreme braking or anything like that. My 'brake' light, the one that comes on from e-brake, has been stuck on for a while. I assumed it was something to do with my e-brake because I drove with it slightly engaged for a bit. that's when it started to stay illuminated.

This was my other thought. Slightly engaged e-brake will create a lot of heat which can cook the fluid.

If you were forced to hit the brakes hard yesterday you may have gone into ABS. ABS has a way of suddenly causing a well-functioning brake system to get air pockets that didn't previously exist.

Bleed your brakes. I'm willing to bet that will end your issues.

The gentlemen at morries suby said that I will probably need a complete brake replacement and that it will probably be around 3k.

What are some alternatives? I know other aftermarket brands will probably be a better idea.

    I really don't want to spend 3k

    Thoughts?

I'm not sure. It's being worked on now. 3-4 months ago they told me my pads were at 10% and my rotors were going to be needing replacement. The guy didn't say that my rotors needed to be replaced specifically, but if they did it would cost a lot. I'm just basing the probability off of what they told me 4 months ago and what they've already told me. I'll post back up after they give me a call.

Just got off the phone. He said my front calipers were bunk and so are pads. He quoted me at $3114 for the front and 1180 for the rear pads and rotors.

There's no way I'm paying 4400 for a brake replacement.

Help me out with some options here.
