I'll bet several large clean bills you have one if you're driving a Subaru newer than 93. (Unless you removed the instrument cluster, or it's broken.) I've had two Imprezas. A 99 and an 02. Both have had gas lights. Wait, don't you work in parts? And you're still only 95% sure?
We had a lady come in with an 07 forester complaining her gas light didnt work, sure as ****, we drained the tank and it worked fine, she never let it get much below a 1/4 tank. We all lol'd.
It is so funny that everyone gets so fired up about finding 93. So does that mean your car will never leave the cities?? If you tune to the edge on 93, you will be lucky if you can drive past st. cloud and get gas. But hey, it those 10whp is what you are looking for, go for it. Russ
Agreed. Thank you Russ. I run it, but as a bit of a "safety net" I was tuned on 91, but run 93. Why? Because it is directly in between my work and where I live.
Eh, why not run the best octane you can get, if you can find it? Yeah, I'm no stranger to running 92 or 91 if need be, but I have my favorite stations I goto.
True, but a well designed tune will be able to handle any octane you throw at it. My advice would be to get tuned on the best gas around. The Subaru ECU can always pull timing if it detects knock, but it will never add timing past the tuned maximum. Best advice I can give is that if you put "different gas" or lower then normal octane in your car, drive it nicely and stay in low boost (1-5 PSI) for the first couple miles. On a good tune, your car will learn and pull timing very quickly.
But pulling timing = knock. And for ME, I plan on driving my car outside of the cities on more than once or twice a summer. Russ
Yup, but knock at loads of .8-1.2 = fine. Knock at loads of 2.5+ = baaad. All cars will knock some, even on a perfect tune. A good tune will learn to pull timing quickly in the areas that do knock, and will learn to pull IAM down quickly if the gas octane rating changes. Anyway, sorry for stealing your 93 octane thread .
There is 93 oct at the BP in Springpark near Mound. Also it appears that the SA in Mound has gotten rid of its 100 oct pump in favor of 91 non oxy.
Also want to add a few other BP's I've filled with 93. Downtown St. Paul, on the northen tip just off 94 at Robert street area. Hwy 280 and Larpentuer before Lap becomes Hennipin Ave has it as well.
Got bored and whipped this up for the visual learners. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=115224847041617793109.000482a9f3284d8145a83
Heading North in the near future - any known locations with 93 octane in Duluth and north to Ely? Thanks in advance for any help on this.
Oh nice... good to know where to get gas when im not close to home. Can we get the map its own sticky and is the author of the map still taking new points of interest. I know the thread is a little old
I decided to call the local BP station stores; BP - Ely (93 yes) BP - Duluth 3931 West First St (93 no) BP - Duluth 2 East Central Entrance (93 "don't know") BP - Duluth 3 West Central Entrance (93 no) BP - Duluth 2432 London Road (93 "is that like propane?") I'll assume its a no. BP - Hermantown 4803 Miller Trunk Hwy (93 no) he said there's no 93 octane available at BP in the Duluth area, but the only place he was aware of that has 93 octane is the Holiday station at 210 S. 27th Ave West, just off 35W as you come into town. So I called to confirm... Holiday - Duluth 210 S. 27th Ave West, just off 35W (93 "don't know")
FWIW, if you're in the area where you need gas and are close enough to both BPs at 694/Silver Lake RD or 35W/CO RD D, I'd choose co. rd. D location every time. I seem to get an additional 20 miles per tank.
Eh, not a big surprise. They're not paid enough to care. Kinda funny is when my first car started on fire next to a gas pump and the people who worked there didn't know where their fire extinguisher was. That's one of those you prolly ought to pay attention to during orientation if you plan on working directly above several extremely large fuel tanks.
"Pshh... what are the chances of a car starting on fire.... I mean it's never going to happen." Exactly what they said during training I'm sure
The one on White Bear and D also had 93, but their car wash sucked! Too bad they don't carry E85 too.
