I am wondering where you would trust near Eagan to get your oil changed on a Sunday? Would you trust a Valvoline instant oil change or like a tires plus?? My problem is that I'm about <200 miles away from needing a change and found out my g/f is having truck problems in Chicago and I may have to drive out there to give her a ride home. So I can't really bring it to a dealer since they are closed and I've heard I cant change it myself because it will void my warranty. Anyone have suggestions?? Wherever I go I plan on stopping at walmart first and buying some Rotella. *edit* I see I can get Kendall Synthetic at tires plus, I heard that wasn't a bad choice.
"cant change yourself because it may void your warranty"=never heard that one before. I say double check on that, change it yourself for the peace of mind and go to Chicago!
Personally I would buy a plane ticket. It's cheaper, faster, and means no wear and tear on the car. Otherwise any place can change it, but make sure they are using something consistent wit what you have been putting in (synthetic or conventional). When they are done, just check the tightness of the oil filter, oil pan nut and check the oil level. If you are really paranoid you can have it done again when you get back. In that case what goes in is less important. Steady highway cruising is pretty easy on engines.
As long as you document when you changed the oil (I have a little maint. log) and keep the receipts for the oil/filter, I see no reason at all it why would void your warranty. The whole point is being able to prove that you did it with the proper stuff in case you have a problem and they ask for it. They don't care about the who/what/where, just that it was done and you can prove it. (or at least that is my understanding from working at a dealership)
I talked to SOA about this and he is right on. The key for warranty is the receipts. I was picking up my AMSoil from a local member and paying cash so this was an issue for me. I asked SOA if i could just video tape the oil changes because i was paying cash for my oil... they weren't having it. So I had to become a preferred member with AMSoil and pay a little bit more to get the receipts . As long as you can prove you purchased all of the necessary supplies and have a log of when you did it (date, millage + what you did) you will be fine in the eyes of SOA. I have emails documenting all of this from Subaru so if you would ever run into an issue just let me know.
I work for a Valvoline in Chanhassen and I would trust one of them before say a jiffy lube or other quick lube place because of all the procedures set in place by the company, so everything gets checked and then double checked. If you're really worried about it bring it to the dealer they will be more then happy to change your oil.
