He was better about that towards the end of last year, but I guess he got amnesia or something over the summer. +1 on your thoughts about PMB and MaryAnn. I'm not a fan of either.
Wow, we need to get back to the basics! Hopefully they're working on their passing skills before they play tomorrow night. The looked like a bunch of peewees out there! Also, I agree with the "dirty goals win games" theory, but didn't they get like almost 30 shots last night? Not saying that they couldn't have gotten more, but sometimes the screaming fans don't understand what's going on. It was definitely better than the Stars game, but damn! What happened between our first games and now?!?
Your exactly right, he was shooting the puck late last year and I believe he even scored a few goals. Huh, go figure.
The Wild started playing some good teams... Up until the Sabres game we hadn't really played anyone good, and since then we only have a victory against Chicago and some tough games against the Sabres, Stars, and Canadiens. This will probably be the norm, especially if we can only come to expect scoring from one line. We NEED Belanger, PMB, Shephard, and even Pouliot to start being a bit more consistent and scoring. As much as we want to get rid of some of these finesse players, without these guys we are just not gonna be very creative or fun to watch. As much as I like Veilleux for his hustle and hard nosed play, a team full of guys like him forces the WIld to rely way too much on Backstrom. If the team moves on Gaborik or even Bouchard, then they better get some talent in return. God, I'm glad hockey is back!
This, I'm sick of people yelling "shoot the puck" when there is 5 guys standing directly in front of the guy with the puck and absolutely zero chance it could go in. If there's no shot it doesn't pay to take the it, better to stay in control and wait for a better chance. That said we need to get better at creating scoring chances.
Well, they will never move Butch. They just signed him to a 4-5-6 year deal. I think poolboy is on his way out. He puts in as much effort as the water bottle. Gaby is as good as gone. The chance that Gaby stays is when $alcer realizes that Gabys stock is falling quicker than the stock market. Then out 85 million offer will look good. Actually I thought they played pretty good last night. There were tons of blocked shots. Its also not as easy as just winging the puck at the net. The Habs blocked up the lanes. The problem is the fact that we didn't move, not that we didn't shoot. No point in shooting into a crowd of Habs, then all they will do is clear the puck and we can complain that we shot the puck right at them. We needed to move more, to force them to move, to open up the shooting lane. Hell, I can't even skate and I could block the shots the wild were taking last night. They only tried to run the same "shoot wide and tip it at the half wall" play about 3 billion times last night. Russ
I understand that setting up plays, making clean/pretty goals is key, but sometimes, when that it is not working, you have to adapt. I think if they would have been able to throw some more pucks at the net, even if they didn't have the cleanest shot, rebounds could have happened, deflections etc. I'm just saying, ugly goals count the same as pretty ones. Playing against the Habs, the Wild did pretty well imo. They are a great team, with lots of skilled players.
This is very true. And, I think they were throwing their fair share of pucks at the net, but the Habs were blocking everything! That's the reason they had to try and set up the pretty plays...but like I said in a post above, apparently we forgot how to make crisp passes last night
ok, am I just an idiot or was the Wild game not on TV last Saturday? I met a friend to watch it at a bar and asked them to turn it on (they had the gopher game on all tv's). They couldn't find it, so I whipped out my handy dandy pocket schedule and see that it had no TV station on that specific date Oh and some guy had the nerve to argue with me telling me the Wild didn't play that night...apparently he didn't believe my schedule.
Nope, nothing for the Sat game. That was 1 of 3-4 that is not on TV. There wasn't even any coverage in Phoenix. NHL on the fly didn't even have any highlights of the game. At was almost like it didn't happen. Of course there was probably only 50 people in the stands, so maybe they flipped a coin for the winner and called it a night. Russ
Hockey in the south is a joke. IMHO, if water cannot naturally freeze in your town at least a few times a year, then you don't deserve an NHL team.
Very true. We went on the wild road trip to Phoenix. The 200 people on the road trip were louder than the 12k announced (maybe 7k real people). The family that sat behind us had on sweat shirts, long pants, stocking hats, gloves/mittens, and were covering up their legs with a blanket. I went in shorts and a t-shirt with my jersey over the top of that. And the game was in Feb. The whole city just clams up once it gets below 140. Russ
When I was playing for a AAA team we had a tournament in Florida. Most of the teams were from FL, NC, TX, etc...apparently there was a rumor going around that everyone on our team had our own rink in our backyard and that's why we were so good! Crazy southerns...
lmao! Seriously though, it's pretty crazy at how good MN youth hockey is here. Even in Mass. (which is a pretty big hockey state), those kids didn't even come close -- I watched a few high school games on TV, and I bet my bantams team could've whooped them.
How ugly is tonights game going to be. I won't get to watch it but I'm guessing I won't be missing much.
I'm going to an "election party" but I'll be making them periodically turn to the Wild game. There is only so much of the news' predicting of the next president that I can take!
Like I said stretching the home streak to 7  This is the year, no more second round chokes. go charks go!
Where did all of you get your Wild jerseys? I've been looking around and it seems like the Hockey Lodge (although probably the most authentic) is the most expensive at almost $200 for a personalized one (I want a Backstrom jersey ) Going around to malls, it looks like they don't have Backstrom jerseys. I think the best place I've found so far is shop.nhl.com where a personalized jersey is like $170 (and if you sign up for their mailing list you get 10% off your next purchase).
Mine is a authentic white old jersey. I got mine the 2nd year the wild played. IIRC, it was $200. No name on the back. There is only 1-2 name I would put on the back anyways. Backs is not one of them. Would really suck to pay $80 to have a name put on it and then he gets traded. Might get mikko if he were to sign a 10 year deal or something, but the players change to much to spend that kinda of cash. Russ
I got a alternate red (at the time) jersey a few years back which was a replica KOHO jersey for around $50 on eBay. Took it to one of the mall places to have it personalized with PMB on it. He is one of my favorite players and of course back then there wasn't a whole lot of jerseys with his name on it back then which was a plus... If I had to do it again Koivu would be my choice, but I love my jersey. It is hard to find cheaper priced jerseys, especially hockey jerseys. If you go for the replicas you will spend less and still look the part! Tough game last night... Just not in the same class as that team with all of our injuries. Very entertaining second period, as I thought it was one of their best periods of the season even though they couldn't score. I wish we could find just one player with a similar combination of size and skill as the handful of scorers the Sharks had. No more injuries please...
Nothing. The hockey lodge charges $80 no matter what they put on the back, so its just not worth it. Just plain and white. One day I will get my all-star game badges put on, one day.... Russ
Wow Luongo stole that game. I'm going to start my own Sharks corner in the thread  13-2 and now 9-0 at home. The Sharks' talent + Red Wings gameplan seems to be working really well. They're the Red Sharks now.
Lol, seems like everytime they play a game that should be an easy win, they end up barely winning. At least burnsie is back!!!!
E-mail the station manager at 45. I have a couple of times about their craptastic broadcasts. Funny thing is, MN Wild produces the 45 broadcasts, and 45 relays the broadcast. So when the players are just floating out on the white, that is the wild producers. She did tell me that they will have 3-4 HD broadcasts this year. FSN on the other hand produces and broadcasts their own line of crap. For the state of hockey, we have by far the worst braodcasts and announcers in the league. F'n phoenix broadcasts all thier games in HD and they only have 200 people show up for games.... Russ
beer at the game pal... lol It was a fun game to be at. very solid win. tonight I went to my second ever wild game and we popped beths wild cherry. she already wants to go again!!! we had it all. shut out, great playing, a fight, backstrom roughing up a guy in the crease.
