If you still have a stock battery, consider getting a beefier one with more CCAs.

Have 5w-30 or 0w-30 for your engine oil.

i am running 5w-30 and all last winter it started every single day. some times i turned over a few more times but always in the first few seconds.

it might be a decent idea to have a block heater put in. most of my moms subarus have normally had them and they start on the first turn right away even if its -60F

IMHO Subarus are made for winter, and to conquer it:)

Yea, GF's '04 TS has a block heater and it's never had problems. My '02 WRX was a bit sluggish at times. Got a new battery and that problem was fixed. Stock battery doesn't seem to have much CCA, is it just mine or has anyone else noticed that?

My scoob loved winter, good thing cause I didn't. ;o) Gonna be interesting with the new ride, gotta get snow tires.

only time I've had trouble (in my '85...CARBED subi) was up here in duluth, my magnetic block heater didn't work, runnin 10w-30 (not bad, but not helping), and a bad battery. it started at first, but I was impatient and tried to drive it immediately, it died instantly, and wouldn't start. luckily a quick push, and I'm facing downhill in a city known as little san fran, for a reason! popped 2nd, and off to school I went!

Factory Subaru batteries SUCK in the cold winter. Replaced mine and I run 5w30 synthetic oil and it starts just great in winter. My sister's 02 WRX had the same prob with a ****ty battery she replaced it and it starts great too. Did I mention having a remote starter owns, and yes it IS a 5 speed with remote start not auto :p

I bought my WRX when I lived in Baudette, MN...70 miles west of I-Falls. With a block heater, it would start fine at -40+, but it took awhile for the transmission to warm up and shift. Luckily, it was a small town, so you run outside and start it, and let it run for a bit before getting about.

Bought my 02 wrx before last winter and it sat outside all the time. Never had a problem. The occasional weak startup, but always started. Pretty sure it's the original battery since it says subaru on it. Loved driving it in the snow ;) But yeah, be nice to it and warm her up first.

My '05 WRX had a few mornings that it took two turns of the key to get it going - it was in an unheated garage. I'll probably look into a new battery but need some recommendations.
Someone told me to give it a little gas when starting - is this correct?

definatly not, the last thing you want to do is give it gas when its already cranking slow. in the winter cars flood super easy

What about the battery suggestions. I know mine sucks in the winter and I have been meaning to replace it. Anyone got a good suggestion for a nice solid battery. Price isn't really gonna be a problem cause even my father said I needed a new one and that he would pay for it so suggestions?

For the most part....a battery is a battery (more CCAs doesn't always help, if you have enough, more is of no use). Of course this considers that you are looking for a stock size battery.

    Interstate, Die Hard, etc.

Optima Redtop batteries are supposed to be great. I'm upgrading to that one in a month or two
