If they can get Dunlop Winter Sport 3Ds in 225/45/17 I'd be interested in a price as a compare to the RSI price you posted. Also, can the Hakka R be purchased? If the new line is out I'd rather go that route. tnx.

    This?!

Also, is it really going to make a difference if I get the 225/45/17 instead of the stock size of 215/45/17? I'm pretty sure it wont, but I'm a tire noob!

Oh, and lastly...how long do we have to get these? Is there a deadline date...or is it while supplies last?

oh no...i wish. However, I'll tell you this...The new Revo is expensive and there are a fwe close-outs available on tirerack for dirt cheap.

my thoughts exactly. the Revo 1s are like half that on tire rack....of course, not quite the tire size I wanted....

The new REVO? You mean the WS-60? Apparently the REVO was a stop gap tire made by Bridgestone after a plant fire ruined the facility that made the WS-50. At the time they were a year away from releasing the WS-60 which explains why the REVO was on the market for a year before it came out. There's some good reading/watching out there on the 50/60/REVO. Anyway, I digress..

By no answer does that mean the Hakka R is not going to be offered? I'm not really interested in two tires that are past the end of their product cycle.

Bump, let's start some feedback. Are those prices competitive enough for you peeps? Let me know your thoughts. Are Nokians too expensive for you this year? Should I shop for another type of tire and/or vendor??

    Let me know!!!!:)

Nokians are out of my budget...Blizzaks are do-able for me.

Since none of these tires come in the stock size of 215/45/17...how much worse is it to mount up a 225/45/17?

IIRC the HAKKA R is the replacement for the RSi. They didn't have the pricing at the time and is supposed to get back with me. I'll check for an update.

Personally I wouldn't do it. Simply because I want a skinner tire in the winter. However, someone on here should know if the 225 will fit stock rims...anyone? Otherwise let's see what else we can come up with as an alternative for you. Give me a few days

Yeah, 225/45/17's will fit on the stock 06-07 rims. I've got a set of winters in that size I'll be putting on this winter on my stock wheels as well (barely used winters purchased in the summer = hella cheap).

    Hello,

I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I recently ordered a 2009 wrx and will be taking delivery in the next week or two. The car comes with summer tires so I have been researching winter tires.

I keep reading about how great the nokian tires are but I am unsure of their characteristics and have some questions. I read the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R are new this year so there really isnt much for reviews on them.

Is the tire squirmy because of the soft compound, heavy siping and low speed rating (< 106mph)? What sort of trade offs would I expect on dry roads?

Does the tire wear out quickly? I know this obviously depends on driving habits, but could someone give a reasonable estimate on tire life (20k, 30k, etc).

When do people normally mount their winter tires? Do you base it on temperature or road conditions? Do most people leave the winter tires on for the entire snow season?

I have also read very good things about the dunlop winter sport 3d's. This tire is considered a high performance winter tire and I am sure it gives up some winter ice traction but better dry road characteristics. Is it correct to assume this tire would wear slower and handle better?

I guess what i am trying to figure out is if the best traction winter tires have poor dry handling and a short life span or if they are pretty good for all winter conditions and worth the money. I dont consider the roads in mn to be bad all that often or for very long. I would rather compromise a little on the really bad days to have a solid performing tire for normal everyday winter driving conditions (cold and for the most part dry roads).

    Thanks

Hey Scuba Steve -- do you have any pricing info on Hankook iPikes? Those seem really popular, and for the normal price. Couldn't find them on TireRack either. I would need 205/55/16...

Is there a deadline on when we have to get them by? I'll be putting them on my stockers which the re92's are currently on. I don't want to be rollin' snow tires already!!

hmmmm, I might be making a run down there this weekend. Is there any interest for re92's with decent treadlife still on them? Maybe on Craigslist? Or should I just have Venburg trash 'em (that seems like such a waste!)

Ok, I'm planning on stopping there on Saturday and I see on their website that they are only open until 2. Has anyone else had to make an appointment or do they get it done pretty quickly.

I figure Sat will get pretty busy anyway with snow coming this weekend...

i was told about 1-1.5 hours when I originally set it up. if you call ahead and make sure they have the tires available and pulled, that should make it a bit quicker.

show up first thing in the am

    ***IMPORTANT***

Be sure to call them a couple days before you want your tires. I was just up there wanting the Blizzak Revos and they don't have them in stock. They have to order them because it's a tire they don't normally carry.

Also, for the Nokian's, they only have the WR's in stock right now.
