Just wondering when you guys are putting your winters tires on? I’ve been waiting patiently, but I think that I’m going to throw them on now. Anyone else running their winter tires already? TIA.
I'm gonna wait. I mean, it's summer in Australia. Australia is on the same planet as me, so I think I'm fine.
I left my wife's snow tires on all last summer. My car i threw them on when i stopped driving my car anywhere (October?) My subaru donor car also just rocks the snow tires year around
Got them on! They don’t really help though because ice...also rear wheel drive...also 2700lbs. Thanks!
At this point in the winter you should have switched to winter tires about July just to be safe, then switch to summer tires in November to be optimistic, and then back to winter tires for next winter by January.
I currently have blizzak lm001. Got talked into them. I would prefer to have ws80/90. I'm currently debating getting new snows for some new wheels I'm getting because I already have to replace one, it got shredded in the accident. Do I buy the one and have it shaved down or buy all new snows for my new 17" wheels. Would fitment be an issue for blizzaks on 17" wheels on a 02 wrx with stock suspension?
As far as fitment, there shouldn't be any issues as long as they're not something stupid like 10" wide wheels. Just get a tire size calculator and find something that ends up being relatively close to stock overall diameter. As long as they're all the same size and at least similar to stock size you shouldn't have any issues. My winter tires are stock size (205/55-16) on stock wheels. Summer tires are stock '14 WRX wheels with 235/45-17 (I believe...) tires. No issues even tho they're decently wider.
40°+ calls for summer tires, right? Or do people have a complete set for each of the 4 seasons now? Actually, one different tire on each corner for each possible road condition sounds a little easier.
No we discussed this already, you should have already switched to summer tires months ago and now its about time to switch back to winter tires. But I don't hate the idea of having a different tire on every wheel just to cover all bases.
I can only assume it would be summer, winter, all season, and slick. The real question is which one goes on which corner?
Well the front wheels pull the car so i would assume one slick and one snowtire to pull the car. Summer and all season in the rear for cornering
Honestly, this is way too much switching around. I'm just gonna drive on my rims for the foreseeable future.
I want snowy March so that I can drive in the snow at least once more before it's gone. At this rate it will all be gone before I have my car running.
This will be me on my way into work Monday. You're right. Maybe I'll stick to my rims, wait a month before I roll on my rotors.
Rims and/or rotors are the obvious choice for glare ice conditions. Haven't you ever seen hockey or figure skating? They have way more control with a thin little piece of metal.
Rims are kinda like those double-bladed skates the kids use to learn on, and then you graduate to the rotors once you have some experience.
Miserable on dry pavement. Had some on my spectra5 when i lived in montana. Like having dozens of rocks stuck in your treads
But like on a lake how much do you grip. I feel like it would be tons of fun if you could have an entire frozen lake to yourself to mess around. Will probably never experience such a thing but it's fun to dream.
I ran stock studded Hakka’s at the “ice races” when we had them back in the day. They help get you going a little bit. Where you really notice a difference is when you are braking! But those were factory studs. I rode with a guy that had run bolts through his tire and cut them off at a point with a bolt cutter. We were doing 50-60mph around corners on the lake and it was like dry pavement with summers on! You could live your dream at the Audi Quattro clubs “ice driving” events. They usually have two events per winter. I have two 16 inch studded tires that you can have. They are old, but look like they’d hold air.
