I see you used the same method as me on the wheels, hows it holding up? Looks like they are peeling a bit.
Yea, it is definitely not holding up. But then again, I didn't really anticipate that it would considering how badly they get abused in the winter. Between all the crap on the roads, and the stupid car wash rails/wheel things, they take a beating. But they are winter wheels, so I'll probably just end up leaving them as is
For snow/ice they're probably pretty good. Have not heard great things about the durability of the TD wheels in general for gravel.
well TD's are cheap and easy to get so I'll probably stick with them until I have a major failure. These 16x5.5 winter rally wheels are a bit spendy and probably wouldn't get here until after most of the winter was done anyway.
Looks good, Doug. I like the gram lights a lot more tho! Looks really good. Like usual. Looks awful. Don't you work at a wheels/tires place? Unacceptable.
It would look A LOT better if it were 2-3 shades darker. I went with a dark grey base coat for my blue wheel.
i've got hankook ipikes on my 2.5rs for this winter. i've driven on the hakk rsi for the past three years so i'm eager to compare, just need more snow!
That's salvageable. Just get some blue flame vinyls to put on the backside of all four wheelwells (Photochop anyone? =). You could peel 'em off when spring came around. Another less-comical option would be to tint your windows blue; that could actually look pretty sharp! (and make the blue wheels look like they belong there)
Finally put the winter shoes on. YAY Looks sinister with the black wheels, imo. Hankook I-pikes ftw!!
just got my new w409 ipikes installed last sunday, they were amazing in the show last night. Much better then my blizzak ws-50's i used previous years
'01 legacy L 15" steelies with Blizzak Revo 1s: WRX wheels with GoodYear UltraGrips (same ones I ran last winter):
I've had the DS-2's on for Dec-April last year and so far this winter. I don't have much of a basis for comparison with other winter tires, but I can say these seem to perform quite well. Between those tires and ABS I seem to be able to stop very well, and between those tires and AWD I seem to be able to go very well, too. And they're cheap!
well i scored a set of Dunlop Graspic DS2 real cheap, 180 for the set and they have 95% tread depth. However, they are big. 225/55/16. They fit with no rubbing in either front or rear, but my only complaint is the steering response. It seems either too responsive and or feels like I'm floating. Under 50mph- Steering is great, very responsive and the front end grabs and holds traction around corners. To the point my rear end wants to slide around very easily. :eek4: Over 50MPH (say 60-70MPH)- The front feels like it's floating a bit. I'm sure this has everything to due to such a huge tire, but I'm a bit puzzled on how to remedy this....if I even can. I'm running 36 psi. When I had them mounted they were are 32psi and the above mentioned senarios were amplified. 36 seems a bit better... Any other suggestions people? btw- these are minor concerns....overall I'd give them a thumbs up for sure. Acceleration and braking is very good.
Running a tire that wide in the winter, there really isn't much you can do. You'll really get the float once you start getting into deeper snow. I don't think pressure changes are going to do much for you either way.
might have as much to do with the softer tread compound. I noticed a pretty drastic change when I switched from the Ecstas to the Blizzaks this year.
