He said most of the time it is worthless junk that you would never use, but this time he got a brand new Roomba. I've never even heard of the site before, I was wondering if anyone else has used it and gotten anything worth while.

Me too. Most of the time they're worthless refurb'd items, but once in awhile there is a gem. There is also http://wine.woot.com/.
I'm always logged in there during woot-offs. Never been able to get the BOC. I think I've only actually purchased a single MicroSD card for all the time I've spent watching that site. They have great product writeups, I like to visit the site daily just for those.
