Hi, I found myself a nice 1998 forester 2.5l dohc but it seems the gears don't match for the timing... either i need a forester ecu so the timing works or legacy gears so the timing matches what i have... unless there is another fix i haven't come across.. anything helps, let me know what you have, thanks!!!

The timing gears between the 2.5 dohc forester and legacy are the same part number. So you are doing something wrong......

hmmm, i tried everything - spark, sensors, whole intake manifold/harness swap, nothing works... cranks but no fire... I even reset the ecu, nothing... is there a kill switch? I will recheck timing this weekend...

Then timing is probably jumped, it will take MANY revolutions of the motor to line the marks up on the belt and the pulleys. If it has jumped, its F'd as these ARE interference engines...

Depends on what RPM it happend, if it was redline, you'll likely need heads, valves and pistons.
