That is awesome! I agree with josh, the sleepier the better. haha Only problem is the hole in the bumper, other than that with the fog light cover you could pass it off as an RS with a poser FMIC kit. Any idea what it would do 60-130 in? That is a common metric on other forums I frequent. Would be interesting to compare to some of the modified 335i's and 911 turbo's. I know of a stock turbo 996tt that will do sub 6.5s 60-130 with E85. He will do about 3s 60-100 so I would bet you are faster or about the same which is awesome.
Yes, I do like the sleeper look of the winter setup, but it is a bit squirrely. You can kind of tell in the video that the second pull gets pretty loose in 1st and 2nd. The wide RPF1's should help with this. I don't have any 60-130mph pulls. I created a 50-100mph thread on NASIOC because it's much more attainable for a Subaru with stock to moderate power. Going all the way up to 130mph is just not very easy to do on a stock or near stock Subaru. I have been using the 50-100mph metric to measure my own car's performance for some time so it's a good comparison point. What do those cars (ie. the 996TT on E85) trap? I imagine it's probably in the 130's for that type of time? The closest thing I have is the log from my most recent 1/4 mile passes last fall. I was trapping 128mph, so it's a little short of 130mph, but it's close enough to estimate. Looking at this plot and taking a guess I would put 60-103mph in the mid 7-second range. 50-100mph is in the mid 4-second range. The new setup is doing 50-100mph significantly quicker than that, so I'd imagine the 60-130mph pull would be somewhere in the 6's, but I'm not quite sure where. I'm hoping it will trap in the upper 130's, but only time will tell. If your friend with the 996 wants to do some highway pulls, just let me know.
Yeah 50-100 definitely makes sense and is much easier to get a time safely, I think the higher hp cars use 60-130 because it is a default output for VBOX recorders and there are almost no traction issues for rwd cars by 60mph and its a long enough pull that you can get a little more accurate numbers. 50-100 is over so quick any little thing can throw off the time a bit. Not sure what the stock turbo 996tt traps, I don't think he's ever gone to the drag strip. Best 60-100mph is like 2.7 seconds but he converted to rwd and does mostly roll racing and 1/2 mile events. He is not in MN unfortunately so probably can't line up with you would be a good race though! The higher hp 335i's would be embarrassed by your car at the strip, even with 800+whp they can't break into the 10's! lol They do well at the 1/2 mile events though trapping 160+. I just moved to Atlanta and wannaGOFAST is being held here in May that I want to go to. Have you ever thought about getting a VBOX? Obviously isn't the same as a timeslip from the track but gives more accurate results than timing based off a video or log because its GPS based and records the actual slope of the road so you know you up or down hill didn't skew the data.
I believe 60-130 became the "standard" online due to the traction issues you mentioned. And VBOX has just added it as a default parameter. You can set it to do other ranges as well. I had plotted all of the 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile data I could find online and got a 1.225x increase from 1/4 mile trap to 1/2 mile. That would put a 160mph 1/2 mile car in the 130's in the 1/4. Check out my friend's CTS-V build from in Atlanta. He made 750WHP on blower and 1200WHP on spray. He attends the WannaGoFast events. http://www.ctsvowners.com/forum/148...-black-raven-6mt-sedan-quest-fastest-6mt.html He does have a VBOX I've been trying to borrow from him. I just can't justify buying one for myself as it wouldn't serve much purpose except as a toy to make graphs. LOL.
Put on 5mm universal spacers yesterday. The inside of the tire clears the strut by a few mm's now. The tires rub on the fenders on big bumps though, so I will definitely have to do a fender roll.
Nice, looks good! Now be honest, who actually did the work, you or your daughter? lol Are you adding extended lugs also at some point? And other random note...I actually just picked up that same jack this last weekend...I love it.
She rolled one of the wheels over and then she put on the spacer. All she kept wanting to do after that was ride up and down on the jack. LOL. I am getting somewhere between 6-7 turns on the stud with the spacers on. I'll probably leave them for now, but someday it would probably be good to do longer ones.
I picked up some eBay center caps ($30 vs. $100+ for the Enkei RPF1 version) as well as hubcentric adapter rings, spline drive lugs, and black aluminum valve stem covers. Here's a shot of the center caps. I'm happy with them. Similar build to the real Enkei ones that I've had before. I rolled the rear fenders last night. I didn't have time to do the fronts yet, so I'm still not driving on the RPF1's. I think with the roll they should clear OK, but I'm still waiting to find out. Right now I have RPF1's in the back and stock wheels in the front. Haha. Not driving it of course. Just waiting for me to have time to roll the front. Over the weekend Fuji and I played with the cam timing a little bit more. Over the summer we switched the intake cam to be one tooth advanced to get some more mid range. Last week we put it back to normal and the top end bumped up a little (as well as shifted the powerband right). The top end was still dropping off hard though, so we moved the intake and exhaust cams 1 tooth more retarded. After the most recent change the powerband shifted again to the right a few hundred RPM's. Peak numbers are about the same, but up at redline there are huge gains. The power doesn't drop off nearly as much. Compared to when I had the timing advanced it is close to 100WHP more at redline (even with boost slightly lower up top). The peak torque isn't as high but for drag use this new powerband should be better due to the top end power.
Working on the rear end with @istoptofly. I had a nut broken off in the frame rail so he cut the T-brace off and then cut a chunk out of the frame rail to get the nut out and do the repair. He'll have to rebuild that section and then we'll be putting in his less rusted T-brace (with upgraded bushings) as well as an r180 and DSS rear axles.
Feels very solid. Definitely more NVH when cruising. I did some hard shifts with it tonight and it feels nice and tight. The extra noise may be a bit much for many people though.
Here's an updated video. Changes since the last speedo video. Retarded Timing by 1 Tooth on Intake and Exhaust Enkei RPF1 17x9" +45 Federal 595 RS-R 255/40R17 R180, DSS 800HP Rear Axles 50-100mph (2nd, 3rd, 4th): ~3.5 seconds Doesn't quite make it to 130mph, but it looks like 60-130mph would be the in 6 second range. Here it is plotted out against my 10.9 @ 128mph log from Rock Falls last year.
My brother and I went out to Rock Falls today. I drove the car there and ran on the street tire setup. The car was run in full street trim and 3/4 to 1/2 tank of gas. There were long lines in the staging lanes so it was about half an hour between passes. I ended up making 5 passes. I wasn't hooking up well and kept putting down 1.7s 60' times and 10.4 ET in the 1/4. My best pass ended up being a 10.3s @ 139mph. It did 110mph in the 1/8th mile. Other than spinning a lot in 1st and 2nd the car did great and was feeling strong well into 5th gear. I am hoping to be back again soon on slicks and maybe a little more boost and try for 9's. I think I have the trap speed to do it, I just need a good launch and the times should drop. I have a few photos and videos from the day that I will try to get up later. My in-car camera didn't work but I have the speedo videos and my brother's track side videos.
This i know! And i agree with the "fun factor". I just figured that ol Fobia would have tried talking him into one. As stated earlier, lookin good Ben! I see 9 second passes in your near future.
Thanks! Yep, everything held together. One axle boot did leak some grease, but that's all fixed up now, thank to @istoptofly Not in the plans. True. Gotta drive it home though. It might still be fun, but it would definitely be more expensive and eat up some power. Maybe once one of Fobia's cars is actually making passes I'll be more convinced. Haha.
I believe his car was on the road earlier this year and Fobia put and auto in his 40R car that is driving now too. Plus Johnnie's '12 should be up soon. There should be some this year, but it's been about 3 years since I saw the last one. Haha.
