Before I even start compiling my answers...could I answer all of the questions up to this point and moving forward and still be eligible for points?
Q5 yes a handful of times. Mostly going to and from duluth or somewhere in wisconsin. Q6 no unfortunately Great questions
Question 7 is upon us! This is for all the ballers, scroungers, and those who love that new car smell. Have you ever: Paid more than 30k for a Subaru? Paid less than 1k for a Subaru? Bought a brand new Subie? Three ways to get a couple of points here.
Q1)off road, yes. Closed course, no. Q2) yes. Q Q3) no accidents with the Subaru. I did have a nasty door ding taken out of it that I got about a month after purchase. Q4) nope Q5) not me. Wife got a speeding ticket a few months after we purchased it. (Same thing happened when I purchased my orange Volvo wagon years ago) Q6) only for about 10 seconds between signatures while trading in the Crosstrek for the Outback Q7) 1) no. Close with the extras and carryover though 2) no 3)no
I haven't bought any really cheap Subies (yet), but I got the '15 Legacy new from Morrie's. With taxes, fees, etc it was just over $30k (Limited model with the Eyesight package). I posted a pic of it earlier, but here's another.
1. No. 2. No. 3. Yes. Twice. A 2015 SJ Foz, (pics of it totaled by a deer earlier in this thread) and a 2016 of the exact same model, trim and color to replace it, pictured cold and dirty below with awesome tennis ball depth gauge for parking. (I love my wife but parking a car in our small garage is not her strong suit. Partly my fault because it's so full of crap you can barely get the car in...) The other 5 Subarus I've owned have all been bought used.
Question #7 A.) Yes, just over 30k, Crosstrek Limited with a lot of extras. B.) No C.) Yes, my crosstrek was brand new with 30 miles on it. Don't have a picture of it when I first got it but here is at least one of it
7.1&3) yes. Bought the 07 STi new for 32.5. also bought the 06 WRX new Dec '05 and we got the 08 lgt new (marked down to 24k year end and original sticker was over 30). Closest to stock/brand new pic I have of the sti since I modded it as soon as I got it home. Test fitting winter wheels, swapping exhaust, and replacing speakers: 7.2) technically yes... maybe? Bought the RS for $1500 and remove the bilsteins pretty much right away and sold them for $1k. Later pulled the motor and sold it for $500. Later yet, bought a 6mt svx with @blackozone... iirc my portion was sub 1k for the engine, harness, ecu, and misc parts. After the svx part out and costs associated with the RS swap, I was just under $3000 in. Sold the rsvx for $3000.
1. Yeah right... 2. Got the 95 Legacy for free. Family was moving out of town in Owatonna and didn't have any interest in keeping it. They were gonna scrap it otherwise. I put a battery in it, fired it up for what seemed like the first time in months, and drove it home. 3. Never have, never will.
1)No. The closest that i ever came was $26k for the WRX in 2003. 2)Technically, yes! I only actually paid $800 for my beloved RSVX. I did in fact finish SubieDave's unfinished basement along with the $800 cash doe. 3)No. And I don't think that I ever will! I don't miss car payments.
Well i am honored to have you putting it through the paces at the tracks with me! Nobody knows her better than you do!
Yay something to contribute! Q1 No Q2 no Q3 No Q4 No Q5 Pulled over for speeding. It was my first time driving since i got out of the hospital a couple years ago. Officer: "It took me a while to catch back up with you..." (we were driving opposite directions) No ticket! Q6 I technically own 3. DD, Project, Fiance drives. Q7 2 new. My WRX and the Crosstrek were bought new. Neither over 30k. Company I work does all the new car surveys in the USA i believe so we get cars at invoice price
1. Nope, most I ever paid was $2k for our '03 Outback. 2. Most of them. I've owned 17 Subarus, only 3 of them were $1k or more (sold many for $3k+) Favorite was this one, arrived for $150: Daily drove it (and more) for a few years. Sold it for $1600 looking like this: 3. Nope
And, since we're answering past questions.... Yea, ran a few AutoXs in my Loyale. Here's a picture from DCTC in 2006 or so
Yep, had a lady pull out in front of me and wreck the XT6 Put it back together, and it's still serving as winter beater duty. Here's a picture I took just this past Monday
Here is Question 8 out of 11! Have you ever gotten stuck or been left by the side of the road (stranded) with your Subaru?
Yep, def gotten high sided while playing around in the snow... Allegedly Usually it's more like this tho Also got stranded on a 1200 mile round trip roadtrip in the LGT when the turbo blew up. That was fun. Somehow managed to not get stuck this day tho...
Never, that's why I drive a Subaru . Even when my transmission failed it was functional enough to drive to the shop.
I refer back to this picture. I started this journey from purchasing that car behind the wheel. That was my first EA82 timing belt break. I coasted to a stop on the side of the road probably a half a dozen times thanks to those timing belts. Usually I had spare belts and the tools to fix them in the car. I did not have a spare pulley this day: I was timed once. From getting out of the car, to running was 16 minutes. This included putting on coveralls, getting out tools and parts, and replacing the LH timing belt (which requires pulling the RH one and both V belts). Twice I had to get a ride home from the Ice races, and come back later. Once from a blown engine, and another time from a catastrophically failed wheel bearing. Came home on a strap this day:
Yes, twice. Both in the WRX. Blew the upper radiator hose once. Think the previous owner installed it backwards so the bend was just barely rubbing the fan. Eventually rubbed through. Second time the upper radiator outlet decided to disintegrate itself because it's plastic.
Q8) nope. Though we almost were in MT when it ate the tires off, thankfully we made it about 39 minutes before Walmart closed. And then I was really uncomfortable to try to drive the crosstrek right before I got rid of it, so I didn't go anywhere those couple of days.
Lol stuck in a Subaru? No, I Subaru correct There was a time a few years back I thought I was going to be stuck. We were in the U.P. skiing and I was hooning around on a snow covered road. I was new to awd and understeered into the snow bank pretty deep. I was able to back right out of it and was totally surprised! My friend and brother in law were amazed.
Q8: Never gotten stuck. I've driven through some serious snowstorms. (snow tires are essential). The deer incident did kill the Forester and stranded us on the side of the road, bu that wasn't the car's fault, obviously. All 7 Subies of mine have been dead reliable. A shot of my longest-owned (8 years) Subaru, my old Bugeye wagon:
Yep! Like I mentioned, great car other than the motor. Rebuild was easy and got 16.5 trade @ 5 years old so not completely turned off by it.
Never mind post above...not sure what happened. It could be deleted. On to question numero nine! Have you ever towed anything or been towed with your Subaru?
I've pulled 3 cars that were stuck with a tow strap, if that counts. All were fwd, and trying to take off from a stop sign. Didn't have to pull them far, 100 ft max maybe. If that doesn't count, then no.
Yes and yes. I'll have to dig some more for a pic of the WRX towing or the STI/lgt being towed, but in the meantime here's a random pic of the rs for @tangledupinblu
