car looks like a car after a hard fought rally. good work on bringing it home with the shiny side up. good thing you dont have a uber bling giant FMIC in there. you would have DNF'ed for sure. definately something to keep in mind when the spinny part of the exhaust gets put back on there.
yeah looks like that SUBIE took it like a trooper!!! a bumper and a little front end damage seems minimal and a easy fix. i was expecting a specticular crash!!!...what a let down...not that i wouldnt cry seeing a subie crash.
It's not going to be an "easy fix" but it's gonna be a great opportunity to cut stuff out and fabricate new mounts and supports. Thank goodness Carl brought it back in fixable condition. 1/4" more and things woulda been REALLY interesting.
Yeah, she got whacked pretty good. Looks like the lower core support pushed up and back, bending the upper core support end the process. Also, the bumper beam pushed back and possibly did some work to the ends of the frame rails, if I'm not mistaken. These things often turn into a lot more than meets the eye. Does it drive straight? I would seriously think about putting it on a frame rack to straighten things out as much as possible. It could save you a lot of work in the end.
Yep, skid plate, upper/lower core support, frame horns, bumper beam, and subframe are all bent. It still drives straight as an arrow so we should be OK. We will be reinforcing the new subframe. Bumper beam will be replaced, upper core support massaged back into shape. Lower support we will have to see what we can do. The frame horns, we will more than likely break out the big hammers, pry bars and the come-along. Lots of work, and only 2 weeks until Nemadji 2. We'll make it work for Nemadji but then we have 1 1\2 months of down time to make it bomb proof.
no need for a rack dan. remember what this car is being used for - from here on out it will never be straight and properly aligned again. it would be a huge waste of money. the car drives very straight and there are no vibrations. fixing a rally car generally wouldnt' be considered fixed on any other car
I gave boomer a 30D and 70-200 F2.8L and some basic instructions. he got some nice shots and I edited them
****ing nice shots, boomer! I'm glad to see you guys are having fun with this, I so wish I could have dedicated myself to volunteer on the crew.
Looks like you have about the same work to do as I have on the new SE-R. Except the damage only includes one frame horn on the SE-R.
I'm not saying you absolutely have to put it on a rack, just that an hour or two on a rack could save you a ton of time trying to straighten things out since you are crunched for time. At least it drives straight, so only the front of the car needs work. Good luck.
i'm not opposed to using a rack by any means dan, i just can't afford it unless someone wants to do it for free or nearly free lol
the framerails are in pretty good shape. driver's side one has a slight crease right under the battery. but I think the passenger side is almost perfect. radiator supports and subframe took almost all the impact. carl. no clip of said impact? I'm pretty sure I was taping then, and I see clips from before that.....
Are they adjustable and if so, why the specific setting? It certainly looked pretty softly set out there like what I'd expect to see from a set of stock Forester take-offs. I have no clue what the spring rates or damper profiles are. It looked like fun regardless, just seems to need a little jump testing. The suspension just seemed out of place.
I don't know all the details. but I do know the dampeners are not adjustable. and I think they're fairly stiff. I think what you're seeing is excessive abuse, more than soft suspension :eek4:
True. It is not a pleasant course. Still, one would prefer to tune to a specific environment, however, if you have no adjustment, there isn't much you can do.
they are not adjustable aside from ride height. it is a beginner set-up. we do not have the budget for $6500 coilovers this year. the rates are 250lb/200lb. it may "look" soft but I can tell you with confidence that I would not want a set-up that was much stiffer. Also, if you were there and saw all the other cars you would be saying that 10 rally cars all had suspension that was out of place
