So the B9 Tribeca is smoking again at start up.

See previous thread from abount a month ago.

Mike Wray said at the time that what they did may not solve the problem and if it starts smoking again that we would be looking at a New engine, sigh...

So we've been searching for a replacement car and coming to the realization that we cannot afford anything decent. I'm at the point of calling and asking what it would cost to do the "heart transplant". Could it be worth it to replace the engine or is it just a waste of money?

What are your thoughts for an engine if you go that route?

Just grab a used block and have it put in? New motor? Rebuilt?

Will Mike be doing the work?

I would be asking Mike to do the work. New, rebuilt, used...that would all depend in cost and what's available. This is completely uncharted territory for me.

Did Mike give you an estimate? It won't be cheap, especially since it's an EZ30.

I left a message and sent an email through their website, no response yet. I know it won't be cheap, but I would like to think that it's cheaper than finding a used car that we don't know the history of. We like the Tribeca, we just have to go through the process and see which route makes the most sense I guess.

Spoke with Mike...ballparked it at $7k. So that's out of the question. I'm just going to make sure the oil is full and run it as is until we can justify another car.

Well I didn't want to go get a "new" vehicle, but the Tribeca is gone and we now have a 2015 2.5i Outback Limited. Problem solved I guess :D
