1)Victory!! 2)She is going to need to pedal faster if she wants to beat that train! 3)I like your led+bungee cord on the roof rack mod. 4)Is this thing going to make it to Cali like the last one once it’s done? 5)I admire how serious you take this build and your videos! They, and it, are fantastic!
Thanks Josh. I hope it makes it out west, I've got an invite if I can make it. I had to start from scratch on my build with this platform and my knowledge of boosting a car. I'm doing my best to make sure others don't have to start from square one. Also this makes it easier to remember what I did while building the car
I was just browsing around at www.EngineSwapDepot.com and saw a familiar face on the front page. Congrats on getting featured there @Eazy_E_Rich! Love that site, by the way. So many bizarrely awesome creations. https://engineswapdepot.com/?p=50428
Pretty awesome that they picked up my project. I too saw this in my news feed today. I sent them some info so I expected they might post it.
I'm back with a image based update! Spent a lot of time on FB looking at RX-8 swaps and seeing a lot of hate thrown around so I'm back to the roots of my car documenting! It was a pretty awesome summer driving the Twin Turbo EG33 Silver Fox. Still no AC so we were windows down a lot of the time. (Shown with Obsolete's Conquest, which he's documenting his Turbo Ecotech swap here) With the current cooling system she doesn't like to sit in traffic, but its never been something I'm too worried about. I still can make a shroud for the radiator or put some larger fans on, but she may be relegated to a fall / winter machine once the RX-8 is running anyhow. I did install a ATOTO A6 Android based double din stereo which runs MSDroid when the car starts up. (Stop light temp shown ^ as I said, it could be better) Prior to this I always connected to the ECU via bluetooth and data logged to my phone, but now that I'm not tuning daily this serves the purpose of showing me some realtime data. (very JDM feeling sky) It's never going to be the best looking machine on the block, but the hawkeye always turns a few heads. I managed to go on quite a few cruises this summer, pretty much one of my top lockdown time activities, especially when fuel was super cheap. (Parking with the cool kids at work) Looking back at these photos I noticed that I've put a lot more working into my RX-8 LS swap over the summer so I should probably get that video edited and posted up, should be pretty long form. Now to the recent developments for the Silver Fox... I was doing my typical on ramp WOT pull and mid corner and near 5k in 2nd gear (10psi of boost) I felt a hesitation. I assumed that this was the engine first thing, then my mind went to 'well, at least I can do some upgrades when it's taken apart'. Then I revved the engine in neutral and it seemed all was well, until I tried to put it back in gear and learned that 2nd gear was now part of the differential fluid. From here it was time to swap out the trans. As you'd expect I want a 6MT, but still am yet to fork over the $3-4k that will take to make it a reality. So in goes another 3.70 5MT. I have yet to fully tear down the old 5MT to see the carnage but I did find some of 2nd gear on the drain plug. After installing the new trans I verified that it worked fine, but the pedal felt way too firm and the clutch would never fully engage. I had the clutch slip on me at WOT in the middle of 4th gear. I took a break and read the forums that night and the next day I planned to pull the trans to look at the clutch. Right before I did I inspected the shift fork which took a lot more force to move than I thought was normal. I recalled reading someone say the fork didn't fully seat on the pivot point so I grabbed my vice grips and yanked up on it. Sure enough it popped back into place and the clutch returned to pre-transmission swap form, proving once again its best to stop and think before just grinding it out. Happily she's back to winter daily driver status and hopefully the slippery roads this winter will save the 5MT from the beating I put on it. Until then I'll be spending most of my time working on my RX-8 build and sharing more of that in the near future. -Eazy (Evan)
Might be an option, I actually really like the 3.70 ratio for the car right now so if PPG could make that happen, seems like it would be ideal.
