Over the past few days, I have been working on getting the responsive design working and getting responsive ads in place and fixed. So far I am very pleased with how everything has turned out. My next task to to work on the dark themes to make sure that they are as clean as the light theme. With that, I ask that people actually try and use the responsive design. I would like to get as much feedback as I can on it so I can try and make the process as simple and light as possible. I only have a couple of android phones and tablets to test with (Nexus 5, HTC One, Nexus 7), so my data gathering will be a bit limited. I have added a "new posts" count so at a quick glance you can see how many new posts have been added. I have tried to get the responsive ads to play nicely with my screen sizes and try to find a happy middle ground with everything else out there. So what I am looking for is for you to actually log in with your mobile browser and use the site and provide me with some real feedback. If you are getting weird margins, ad placements, or **** doesn't work, let me know. I need the device, browser and screen orientation (portrait or landscape) of what you are using and a screen shot if possible. I really want to make this work and work well. As it stand right now, Tapatalk will be on its way out. There are too many security risks along with it generating revenue for them and MNSubaru not getting any of it. Tapatalk has removed all my analytics from their site. So I can't even see how many people are using the app, along with ad impressions and clicks. So that leave me totally blind on the potential ad revenue that the site COULD be making to stay online. So PLEASE let me know what you don't like about the responsive design, or what you do like. What features of tapatalk will you miss the most or would like to see if it is something we can add here. Russ
I use a Galaxy S4 in portrait mode and it still works fine for me. Looks about the same as it always has (except the number showing the # of new posts). I never used Tapatalk.
At this time, I have no date set. It is just something that will eventually be happening. There is another big Xenforo update in the works that will also help speed up all browsing (mobile and desktop) and I think I might try and just disable TT at that time and see how everything plays out. Xenforo just went live with the beta, so it would most likely be a couple of months before it is a stable release and I update the site. If the TT security issues do not get fixed soon, the cut off date will be sooner. Either way, I will not just turn it off one day. I will make a post to let everyone know when it will happen. Thanks for the prompt replies so far and I hope that more will continue to give their input. Russ
I have one question about the new post count numbers...is it showing all new posts and not just activity within a thread? For instance, today I logged in with a new post count of 125, but those posts must all be within the 40 active threads since my last login...or is it pulling new posts from other sub forums that I don't have access to? (you know, those admin forums and the other ones )? So far on my iPhone 4s and iPad2 on Safari and Chrome browsers, things look good and I use the dark theme.
Ok, so it has been a couple of weeks since I asked people to try out the mobile browser version of the site. Is there any other feedback?? Is there something that keeps bringing you back to tapatalk?? With the latest XF updates and the latest Tapatalk fails (last update crashes the site), we are moving closer and closer to ditching Tapatalk. Here is my support site. https://support.tapatalk.com/forums/xenforo-discussion.57/ As you look through there, notice that Tapatalk does not respond to many (if any) help requests. There are more than a few people a little pissed at the total lack of help. Along with Tapatalk does a fair share of thread removals when they don't have answers, or when people start to pile onto serious questions (mostly major security issues). So please, give the mobile browser a chance and PLEASE give me some feedback. If there are things that just don't work right or things you would like to see happen, I will do my best to make the changes that make sense. Russ
To be honest Russ. Ever since the updates, and maybe its because I use chrome on all my devices as well .... I never seem to have a problem Its always very snappy with my responses and loads just fine. I am using the n4, and n7 as my mobile devices. Only time I really ever will use tapatalk is for uploading pix because its just easier for me to do imo. Otherwise I think the mobile browser works great. Maybe its just me but when i come back to browse later on does anyone else have to "re-login". Maybe the credentials are not cached in my browser. Not a huge deal though! Let me know if I can help you out with anymore feedback.
Since you announced that you may be shutting down access from Tapatalk, I have just been using Safari on iOS. I haven't had any issues at this time. The reason why I used Tapatalk before was because of push notifications and because I use the app for accessing ECSCC's forum easily. It was just nice having it all in one place.
I've never used tapatalk once. I only rarely have issues with the site, but it's usually an issue with my internet connection. I use my phone for 90% of my forum use outside of work.
Only reason I get on tapatalk is out of habit. Been trying to use the mobile site more, but habits kick in sometimes
Bumping this back to the top. Tapatalk has been disabled. The last working version of Tapatalk and the latest version of Xenforo do not get along. The latest version of Tapatalk is still garbage and has it's own issues. So with that, I have disabled tapatalk for the time being. *IF* tapatalk ever fixes itself and if it ever fixes some of the huge issues it currently has, I might re-introduce it. For now, we will be running just on the responsive design. There are a few more tweeks that I plan on rolling into the site to help speed things up a bit and I al going to do a overhaul on the ad network and the ads. Hopefully these items will help speed up the site for everything from the desktop to cell phones. If you have any issues or suggestions, please feel free to pass them along. Russ
Never used taptalk doesn't everyone have 4g+ now days anyway, it insists on being used too much. Works awesome from chrome on HTC one (m8). It looks like the videos from people linking youtube fit better than they did before. I like the dark-blue and master one, through the master one reminds me a bit of pornhub colors.
Well the Tapatalk signatures have always been turned off on their end, but with all the bugs they have, they still show up from time to time. And that is just 1 of the many problems with tapatalk. Russ
One thing I did like about tapatalk was I could go to unread post sections and just mark post read with out opening them. Makes sorting through bunches of post a lot easier. Just my two cents
Tapatalk was super buggy on MNsubaru. A lot of threads were missing posts when I viewed it from Tapatalk and I could never get it to work right. SubaruForester.org uses a thread app called AutoGuide. Have you looked to see if this app would work with MNSubaru?
Autoguide is vbulletin, so no that would not work. That is the $99 a month "mobile skin" that VB uses. Russ
Love using the mobile site! I've been using Tapatalk for years and I'm loving the change. **** Tapatalk!
Booo. I have to try and use my browser then. I always used TT without an issue that I noticed too. Hopefully they un-**** themselves and get it back to propriety again.
i didnt mind tapatalk but i guess i never used enough to become dependent on it. I use the mobile browser version on my n4 and n7 and have no issues.
Having an issue on safari right now, the new posts button says a number, then I click it and it says there's no new posts. But I go to recent posts and I can see the ones that are new... On iPhone 5*
As a casual browser of the site (once-twice per week) I exclusively used Tapatalk. It gives me the 5-10 different forums I read across the web at a glance, in one place. If I start a PM convo, I get those messages delivered via notification (I understand I can use email notify as well, but it's great to have in one place). I had favorite subforums set, such as For Sale, and could be notified of new posts to those subforums. Again, I understand all of this can be done with email alerts, but being that mnsubaru is not the only forum I visit, it was great to have these settings in one app for all the forums I read.
Your forum, your site, your choice but I disagree with your decision to ditch Taptalk. Truthfully, since you disabled Taptalk I've visited MNSubaru half as often.
This. I despise using the browser on my phone, so if a forum isn't tapatalk enabled it only gets seen when I'm on my computer for a bit.
Same for me as well. I thought this was an issue with my taptalk as it is buggy sometimes, so I have been frantically been troubleshooting without any success. In the meanwhile I have been using other forums. I have most of my forums through taptalk and have the NASIOC app as well but rarely go to NASIOC just because it's not on taptalk. I access this forum while at work so I will still be on here quite often
The big things to remember is that not only is Tapatalk buggy as hell, it provides the site no real security. The tapatalk app bypasses all the forum security measures. Along with that, they keep (and control) all advertising ads. I get paid nothing for the ads you see on Tapatalk. While yes, they are supposed to pay, there is no way for me to ever even see how many ads get pushed out to everyone and if anyone ever clicks on them. Then Tapatalk decides what my cut of the ads shown (and I have no idea what is even pushed out) based on whatever the hell they want. At this point, the donations are way under funded, so all ad revenue that is brought in has to basically pay for the site. This also limits what kinda of events and prizes we can contribute through out the year. IF people don't want to donate and don't want to browse the site to see "our" ads, sooner or later the tiny nest egg that MNS has will be gone and the site will just not be around anymore. Russ
Makes sense. Wonder if it'd be possible to have a MNSubaru ap (like the NASIOC one)..... I'd download that on my phone.
Yep, that is just the tapatalk BYO app. It is a $99 "setup" fee, then a $69 a month fee for the ios and android apps. We don't even pay close to that for the servers for the whole site, much less a mobile app. http://tapatalk.com/build.php Russ
What about http://www.forumrunner.net/ , it supports XenForo and it looks like any ad platforms you decide to enable have the funds go directly to you.
