I'm thinking the ice should still be fine, but will just have a layer of slush. Just check and be safe before you venture off deep into the lake. The weather will drop just a tad bit later in the week.
yeah, when me and my buddy went out on the 5-6inches of clear solid ice, the multiple crack sounds and movement had us heading home after a short outing. will prob wait for a week of below temps before heading out.
what area are you fishing? northern mn im assuming? weather's still too warm for me to get out around the metro.
Yup northern mn. Some metro lakes do have a good 6" of clear ice if you haven't checked like south center and green lake.
metro as in within 2 miles of downtown(calhoun chain of lakes)...lol but yeah my friend was just at south center and caught a few perches there yesterday. kinda odd seeing 6inches of ice with the weather we've been having.
alot of the metro lakes are showing up 5-8 inches. if you want more info on other lakes, check out fishingmn.com
Got out on Prior yesterday for a few hours and pulled a few little ones. It was great to get lines wet again. We found 6-7" of good ice, but my buddy ended up pulling a kid on a 4 wheeler out of the lake yesterday afternoon. Apparently there was a good size hole and the kid headed right into it. No one was injured. After about an hour of fishing, I got a call from my wife that the youngest had the stomach flu and I was needed at home, so I spent the afternoon getting all of my gear dialed in. The new hard-case is THE S**T!!! I also got the Polaris fired up and ran a hot-lap around the yard.
WallMart - it's a gun case. But, I have not seen them re-stocked yet. It was a black-friday thing that my buddy picked up for both of us.
that hard case is dope! I've always thought about doing that. i hate my rod bag, no broken tips, but i hate when my hook snags the inside lining.
Thanks guys. If you hate breaking your rod tips, you can go to a golf store and get some plastic tubes, cut them to length and use electrical tape to hold them together to protect the tips. 1" irrigation tubing will also work if you have some of that laying around. I'm taking my wife and two boys out on Saturday morning and we're fishing a tournament on Prior on Sunday. Let's hope these few days of 40+ temps don't F**K up the ice too bad.
Ah, sorry mrantegra! I didn't check this thread in time. I will see if we have any spots open for the tournament on Waconia on the 22nd. We took 2nd with 4.6lbs and a .65 Crappie. It was a great day to be out on the ice but I would like some cold temps!
nice, which house were you in? we were there too! from 6am till noon. didnt have as much luck though. just 3 12in crappies on the wis. side.
Went out on clear lake in Waseca for 4 hours yesterday. sat up shop and fished right out my suby door. Only caught one little sunny
Still never been ice fishing but we've got our tickets for the Gull lake tournament next week. Wish me luck
