Installed. What a pain in the ass to do alone! Put in the new turbo, soldered up the pigtails for the five-o 1600's and intalled Agency Power rails. Whoever put together the lines for their kit must have been drinking E85 at the time...everything is a foot too long easy. Of course the fittings are crimped on stainless braided lines so I had to make due with what I had laying around in the garage. Needless to say I'll be ordering some fittings and fuel line this week... After working on it all night last night, I went back at it today, fixed a couple fuel leaks after I got it all in, and seriously spent 4 f'in hours fixing boost leaks! To boot, the last leak was between the compressor housing and CHRA! Luckily I was able to take the comp housing off w/out pulling out the whole turbo....red RTV FTW! It took 30psi like a champ on the final leak test w/out a peep! Can't wait to get this thing tuned! I think we'll be testing the strength of these eagle rods
Yeah I'm gonna hang on to the 30R for that, the last thing I need is more power to make faster laps...ask Chong he'll tell you haha
Yeah it's a good time, looking forward to cams & 8k. Bummer about the dyno day, we'll be on our way to Cedar Falls. I'd like to see what it does on their mustang.
There's reason Nuke is smart with our cars. I think I almost gave him a heart attack with this one! He just doesn't want to see it sitting on the side of the road. There's risk with my eagle rods being H-beams which have have snapped for other guys in EJ's, and one tune obviously doesn't fit every application...this should be fine for the 1/4 mile and messing around on the street. It even sounds like we could squeeze another half of a degree out of redline if we wanted. However, as soon as I head for BIR, whenever that is, I'm going to reflash to the less aggressive map. Honestly it's my curiousity and desire to learn which is our biggest risk with this car. But it's just like wrenching on your own car, it makes everything so much more rewarding! (Until it breaks, but that's all part of the learning process )
Doesn't torque bend rods? Or is it torque at high RPM that does them in? I don't know if breaking things is quite as much fun as you make it sound...
Sounds like cylinder pressure is a big concern, which too much timing contributes to. Not sure if we need to worry about torque or horse, but if you're that close I think we're splitting hairs. I'll be going to I-beams over the winter hopefully so it'll be a concern of the past. Breaking things, or just straight up failures usually sucks at the time...but with a certain amount of time, the learning experience is usually worth it. Lesson learned for me is if your toy is the only way you can get to work, you better have a plan B in your back pocket!
lol those hbeams...just snaps i've seen more snapped rods than bent, but i've seen bent ones too. Saturday FTW
Any suggestions for wheel width & offset? My tires are about shot and I don't want to buy a new set if I plan on going wider anyway. How about tires that would be good for road racing & daily driving? Or should I just bite the bullet and go R-compound? I'd have another set of rims I could through some daily rubber on...
I'm on 17x9" Mach V Awesome wheels. They're 17.8 lbs. Enkei RPF-1's are one of the only things lighter in that width unless you spend a few grand on a set. I have Dunlop Star Spec 255/40R17 tires. They are pretty sticky for a street tire. I'd consider going with a track tire if that's what you have planned for the car.
I'd be willing to drop a couple grand (I don't plan on actually buying until spring). Those gram light 57 maximum's are pretty much exactly what I'm looking for as far as appearance goes, but they are discontinued The Advan RGII's are pretty close for looks, but I'd consider that the max of my planned wheel budget. I'm running Star Spec's right now too, 225/45 of course, but they treated me well at the track. (even though I didn't treat them so well )
I really like the look of the Gram Light 57DR. Do you have an 04 STI? If so, they seem to have group buy's for them once in a while. They're pretty cheap compared to other options. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2292565 They look pretty awesome. I was very close to getting them for my car. Only downside is they're not super light. Around 20lbs for the 17x9" size. Considerably heavier than your BBS.
5x114 is a standard issue for those. You don't even have to wait for a Group Buy. Just order them up!
You don't need power to break anything, it's poor technique or some would call it "bad driving." I know which road you're headed, you should just consider buying 17x+10. And should start wearing tires at least 265 minimum and 285 for track duty. I know your style Capt. Wax on, then hammer down lol
Hmm...that would be fun on the track, that's for sure! What kind of offset would you use for a 10" wide rim? Any idea what would have to be done to make those things fit?
