Was out tinkering on some stuff in the garage today, so i decided to wrap up this little badge project that i've been putting off forever. Thanks again Rick! Your Legacy badge lives on!
As did I. Unfortunately I was greeted by much less tread depth than I was hoping for. Time to go shopping I guess.
Unfortunately, throwing a turbo on the H6 is rather complicated. Perrin built a turbo H6 STI for the 2005 SEMA show, and they said it was the most complicated, painful build that they ever did. They make a bolt on supercharger kit for the H6, but I don't have an extra $6K lying around. I could get a used WRX for less than that.
Yeah, I would imagine that turbocharging the H6 would be very complicated. Rear mount turbo? Lol. The supercharger kit wouldn't be too bad, other than cost. Just have to relocate a few things I would assume.
@Cotts612 This was the best that i could do with the dark potato cameras. Goldies with brand spankin new General Altimax Arctics.
Put on my snow tires/wheels, but before that threw on the new winter (and eventually summer) shoes to see how they looked. Hope to swap tires over this week! I also changed the cabin air filter and picked up a set of wheels for my dad.
Randomly found a Prodrive grille on eBay for a (relatively) decent price. Needs new paint and an emblem, but otherwise in nice shape. Will go nicely with my other recent purchase that I'm still waiting to be delivered.
Finally followed through on something that had been on my wish list ever since I bought my bugeye and swapped out the headlights for some OEM-style projectors. After much internal debate I decided to go with replicas made by Depo. They have a LHD beam pattern and although they didn't come with bulbs they are a plug-and-play replacement. They look great (near identical to OEM) and build quality is probably 8/10, just because of some minor issues with harnesses and plugs not fitting exactly right. Next step is to clean up the Prodrive grille and get it painted, thinking I might paint the fog covers body color while I'm at it.
High/low are separate now, use H1 and 9005 bulbs. I'm using Auxbeam 6500K LEDs for both, cutoff on the low beams (projectors) looks really good. Can't say how bright they are since it hasn't been out of the garage yet but I'll try to do that sometime this week. Low beams: High beams: And just with the park/signal lamps on:
I wish they'd bring it back for a year or two so we could get a fresh supply of rust free ones. I really don't know why my brain likes this car so much.
Over the weekend replaced the serpentine belt and switch wheels from the Sport Edition SE-17s to Enkei EDR9s. Very happy with them!
I posted a photo on the SJ thread and in my photo thread. I only have one that is half way decent yet but will try to get more soon.
Made my own STI duracon shift knob. Sourced a duracon knob I liked from eBay, the STI shift pattern sticker, and drilled out the recess into the top of the knob. https://photos.app.goo.gl/dhYBV2rSDqwFLpbD3
Thanks. Here's a few photos I took during making it. https://photos.app.goo.gl/6bfIo1iF4TxbXll93 https://photos.app.goo.gl/vRIWAD4nJWufTIwd2 https://photos.app.goo.gl/KBOZ7XrMbLRN1gId2 https://photos.app.goo.gl/pUHa9gjJI2r5aLpx2 Funny thing is, this is about half the weight of the stock knob, but I like the feel of the shifts better. I seem to get more feeling of the gears through the shifter and can feel when to ease into gear rather than slam it home with a heavier knob. I had a 500g solid steel knob, but it felt vague and kind of floppy. Might be due to the shifter itself being pretty tall - weight-on-a-stick effect.
Timing belt/water pump in our 94L Legacy wagon (190k) last night. What could go wrong? To begin with, three of the timing cover bolts snapped that embedded nut out of the rear timing plastic cover. Reset them with JB plastic weld and they held! Timing cover gasket was all stretched out and had to be sliced and spliced to line up over the bolt holes correctly. All is good on the way home last night at midnight until the car shudders and dies about ten minutes down the road. $H!T! We have fuel, spark...what the heck? AAA comes about 45 minutes later and flatbeds us back to my buddy's house. It's now around 1:45 am. Dive in again and what do we find? Part of the timing cover gasket had come off and got caught just enough between a roller and belt to cause the right cam to jump about a 1/2". Get this all cleaned up and lined up again and am thanking God for non-interference motors all the while. Put her all back together and she's purring like the proverbial Subaru kitten she is. Needless to say, new timing cover gasket set ordered today from Rock Auto. I need a nap...
This was actually about a week ago tonight. Everybody do me a favor and say one of those magical Subaru prayers or sing a song in hopes of extending its life! Hot damn! Finally figured out how to modify the image size when posting pics.
