I also waited to the last minute to put on the winters. Got them on yesterday afternoon. Perfect timing
I wish I would run out of material to post in this thread...but things just keep happening! Youngest son (23) calls me this morning. On his way to work red oil warning light comes on in his 94 L AWD wagon. He pulled over immediately. There is a life lesson every person who drives should adhere to. He is in Stillwater. No problem, AAA will be there to get the car in six hours. Yes, six hours. Whatever. I ask what do you suspect happened? He says his oil fill tube is really loose. Okay, I grab an OEM o-ring and bolt (they only had one) and I'm ready. Well, turns out, not one, not two, but all three drivers side valve cover bolts had backed out to hand tight. What the heck? Sure, I took them out once...six years ago to replace the gaskets! So, tonight I removed them one at a time, inspected for damage, and threaded them back in with just a dab of medium strength blue Loctite on them. Torqued to 48 inch pounds and off to Maplewood he went. Good sign...my phone hasn't rung in the past thirty minutes. So, valve cover bolts backing out? How? Actually, I retract my initial statement in this post. This is becoming therapeutic.
AAA is great. If your not in a hurry. Last time I called AAA it was just raining and it took them 2 hours to get to me.
Huh. I haven’t had that experience thus far. Both have been dry conditions when the cars failed. First time i used them took about an hour and i was down in Cannon Falls. The next two times were about 45 minutes.
As long as the weather in your area is decent its normally a short wait. Minute weather is bad it seems like the wait times skyrocket.
Dropped off the Impreza for a new catalytic converter. Got a loaner for the day. Brand new CrossTrek. This things pretty nice!
It's a good way to test drive vehicles for the cheap on an extended timeframe! I've already got to drive a new Outback and a Legacy Sport.
What I wanted to do to my 05 LGT was tighten all the fuel line clamps in the engine bay. So, why are all the clamps under the manifold upside down? Come on...really? How to do this? I know with the super cold coming this car will leak raw fuel...thank you -Rick
Just had JMA do this service on mine. Sounds like the intake mani has to come off from what Jesse was telling me.
I took my manifold off this summer to redo the fuel lines, align the screws so I could get at them with the manifold in the car and tightened the crap out of them with threadlocker. Also did my TGVs and air inlet at the same time. After finally getting my car working again - MAP problems which turned out to be a loose connector - my new radiator was leaking. Except it wasn't. I found a loose lower radiator hose clamp and the upper radiator hose was rubbing on the alternator. LFMF. Man, I suck at fixing cars right now... Drove it into work, needs a car wash and hopefully it's done. Then on to the Acadia, and Vibe...
I did my fuel lines a couple years ago. Thought it'd be a pretty straightforward, "easy" job. Ended up pushing into 8 hours I think. I did sneak in a turbo inlet and silicone intercooler hose job at the same time, but damn are those lines obnoxious to get at. One of those jobs I told myself I'd never do for somebody else.
Picked up my dad's STi from Chris at @FlawlessFrontEnds&Tint and had him do the 3M Clear Coat all over it to protect the paint. As always, superior work! Also, +10 to Mrs. @FlawlessFrontEnds&Tint for saving me last week when we dropped off the car - the Forester battery (still OEM 2014 MY but I believe 2013 build year) died on me, for the 3rd time in 24 hours, and she came to our rescue with a sweet little jumper machine that worked wonders! So also on the list, today I put in a new Interstate battery (MTP-96R). Jumped it and got it up to my buddy's shop in New Brighton, and unfortunately, they had just sold their last two MT-35 and MTP 35, but this one worked out just find.
Today I wiped off some oil dripping from valve cover gasket (I replaced this sumer). It didn't leak this summer, but now it is ithe cold. didn't use a tourqe wrench just got it good and tight. Although the kit I got said compatible with my 2010 Forester when I got it the sticker said 98-12 Forester impreza EJ25. Test gasket seemed to fit fine. Any input?
Do you store it outside or in a garage out of the wind? If its the latter how often does it get driven? If it sits outside for to long without being driven in these temps with the winds we have been seeing it is conceivable that its just due to the cold really.
How much good and tight? Torque spec on valve covers is like 4ft/lbs. Over torquing could distort the gasket, causing leaks
It is a ridiculously low torque spec on those. When I did mine I checked a few sources because I thought there was a typo or something.
This is from two or three weeks ago, but I changed my oil at my new house for the first time. Thankfully I got the oil change done the night before the first cold snap.
It lives outside with no shelter, gets driven 80mi+ 5 days a week. I don't have a torque wrench. I did order the correct gaskets and plug gromets to fix on a nice warm weekend.
I'm surprised someone your age would "see" a Citation in that pic, but you are absolutely right...my brother has two of them.
I’m nearly 40. We had a green one and a white one when i was a kid. Quality door latches is what I remember...i fell out of the back when leaning against the door. Yes...and, Yes!
You're about the same age as my nephews. I'll have to ask them if that ever happened to them. Is the pic of the green one the actual car? It looks like aftermarket wheels (or wheel covers) as I don't remember that design.
Nope, just a goodle search. That appears to be a “GT”. Lolololololololol. Ours had the sweet hubz Old man.
Lol nope. I spent an hour shoveling last night and the snow on my driveway was about 2 feet deep from the wind whipping around (in southwest Minneapolis). The driveway has big enough to fit two cars.
I bought a used/rebuilt old snow blower out of some guy's driveway for $50 when we first bought our house 5+ years ago and two winters ago it finally bit the dust. We decided to get a new one, and it was one of the best homeowner-decisions we've made. I honestly love using it, and even in S. Mpls, it makes a huge difference having that vs. shoveling (we are on a 1/10th of an acre lot, but corner lot and I take care of the neighbors' houses around us). Worth the investment 10 fold in my opinion!
